Rare Diseases & Staying Hydrated

“This post is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with Pollinate Media Group® and DripDrop®, but all my opinions are my own. #pmedia #DrinkDripDrop #DripDropHydrates http://my-disclosur.es/OBsstV”

My daughter has a rare disease, Ehler’s Danlos Syndrome, Hypermobility Type. What does this mean? Remember seeing cartoons where the character could unhinge his jaw and stuff in an entire sandwich? She can do that, except by accident. She can be walking along when the joints in her knee or ankle pop out of place, or move her arm and have the joints in her elbow dislocate. It’s annoying and painful, and has also caused a condition called mitral valve prolapse, which affects blood flow between the chambers of the heart. In other words, she passes out–a lot. She passed out so often we became used to loud thuds. “Sounds like your sister has passed out again,” I would tell my son while cooking dinner, “go make sure she didn’t hit her head.”

My daughter is able to take premixed bottles of DripDrop with her, allowing her to still enjoy some activities.

When she was finally diagnosed, the doctor informed us she had to stay hydrated all the time, eat lots of salt and keep those electrolytes up. We relied on sports drinks, but her doctor told us we needed more, something that worked fast.
DripDrop Hydration formula

Enter DripDrop, an Oral Rehydration Solution, found on the baby aisle at CVS pharmacies and safe for everyone from kids over one year of age to seniors. Oral Rehydration Solutions are a precise ratio of sodium, sugars and other electrolytes designed for maximum absorption and fast recovery from dehydration. So what’s the problem with that? Before DripDrop these solutions tasted like ocean water. Remember getting mouthfuls of water by accident at the beach? I’m pretty sure no one likes that taste. DripDrop is available in Lemon and Berry flavor and tastes like a traditional sports drink. Being able to have a medical grade formula on hand for us has been amazing, reducing our trips to the hospital for hydration therapy (think lots of IVs).

Most people will probably not need DripDrop for the purposes we use it, but it is still great to have on hand for days the kids haven gotten stomach viruses, overheated or another other myriad of common health problems.
