Pumpkin Place Card Holders Craft

Pumpkin Place Card Holders
I am the “hostess with the mostess” on Thanksgiving. I host the entire extended family for a huge dinner, complete with turkey, dressing and all the trimmings. I want to set a lovely table, complete with cute fall decor, but I do not have the “crafty gene” that some people have.  Sadly, I also lack the patience of people who can sit for hours making sure the craft turns out perfectly. I like crafts that come together quickly, do not require a PHD from Craft U and are low cost.  These pumpkin place cards are low cost enough I can make one for every family member, even the kids table!  Plus, each place card holder comes together in around five minutes.  Don’t need place card holders? These can be transformed into a centerpiece by using three medium sized flower pots each topped by a larger pumpkin.  Also, craft stores are clearing out their fall merchandise to make way for Christmas products, meaning it is a great time to buy fall decor and save money.

Here’s what you need to make a pumpkin place card holder:
1 mini flowerpot (I purchased mine for 22 cents each at Walmart)
1 floral stick (I purchased a package of 50 at Walmart for around $2)
1 small piece of floral foam (I found a large block at Michaels and chopped off a small piece)
1 mini pumpkin (I purchased a six pack at Michael’s for $2)
1 roll of Fall ribbon ($1 at Michael’s)
Shredded paper in fall colors (I used brown and red because I found some in my craft closet)

I began my project by cutting a small piece of foam to fit inside the flower pot.  Using a floral stick, I pushed the top of the stick through the bottom of the pumpkin and then inserted the stick into the floral foam. I cut a six inch piece of ribbon and wrapped it around the floral stem, beginning at the bottom. I secured the ribbon with the attached wire on the floral stem and covered it with shredded paper. To make these into place cards, cut a 2″inch by 3″ inch piece of paper (use scalloped edge scissors if you want it to be fancy) and write a name with a silver marker.  Use a hole punch to make a circle in the top left corner of the paper. Thread a six inch piece of ribbon through the paper and tie it onto the floral wire.  The total cost of each pot was around fifty five cents, but could be cheaper if you find the supplies discounted.

  24. What a unique idea-I love it! And you are correct-even clumsy non crafty at all me could put a couple of those together. I go elsewhere for Thanksgiving or I would certainly attempt to make these!

  25. Those are super cute and wicked easy to make. Are those real pumpkins or plastic? I see that you got them at Michael’s, so I am assuming that they are artificial and you can use these year after year.

    • They are plastic pumpkins, Robin, so I can reuse them. I got the smallest size they had–the bag of six mini pumpkins.

  26. I like that idea!! We are having our Thanksgiving celebration at a church hall so we really need something to spiff the place up. These would be perfect and also let everyone know where they should sit.
