Peppermint Sugar Scrub Recipe

After Christmas sales are my favorite shopping times. Who doesn’t want to get candy for 50% off? Candy canes are literally a dime a dozen in the weeks following Christmas. I stock up on several boxes and use them for all sorts of treats.  Crushed candy canes can be used to make candy spoons for cocoa, peppermint marshmallows, cookie toppings and more. While I’m making all of my favorite indulgences, I also like to whip up a batch of this easy Peppermint Sugar Scrub.  This recipe is perfect to use on your body or as a lip scrub. It smells divine and can easily be given as a sweet Valentine’s Day gift.

Easy Peppermint Sugar Scrub Recipe

You’ll only need three ingredients to make this scrub. If you want to get fancy and give it a cute pink tint, you’ll need four ingredients. Even better you probably have all the ingredients -except maybe the peppermint-sitting in your pantry.  Another great thing about this recipe is that it is adaptable. You can use a variety of oils and can substitute peppermint essential oil for the fresh peppermint if you prefer.  Best of all, this recipe takes around five minutes to make from start to finish.  It’s also a great stress reliever to make. When you’re feeling frustrated, place the candy canes in a plastic bag and smash them. That always relieves some of my tension!

Here’s how to make the Peppermint Sugar Scrub:

You’ll need
unwrapped peppermint candies or candy canes
granulated sugar
oil- you can use olive oil, canola oil, tea tree oil, coconut oil, or almond oil. I recommend a lighter oil that doesn’t have much taste, especially if you use this as a lip scrub.  This recipe is gluten-free so if you accidentally get some in your mouth, it’s no problem.
red food color or red food gel (optional, only if you want to give it a pink tint)

Once you’ve unwrapped the candy canes, place them in a plastic food storage bag and smash them.  Depending on the mood I’m in, I’ve used a hammer, a rolling pin, or just my hand to pulverize them. You can also just put them in a food processor for a few seconds.
In a medium bowl, mix the sugar, oil, and crushed peppermint until blended.  If you plan on using the food coloring or food gel, mix in a few drops and stir. Repeat until you have the color you desire. I usually use a small amount because I want the recipe to be a light pink.
Store the peppermint sugar scrub in an airtight jar and use within the next two weeks.
