How to Care for Luxury Linens

Did you know the average person spends 1/3 of their lifetime asleep? To make the most of our sleeping time, we want to be comfortable. The best way to be comfortable is to invest in a good mattress and a set of luxury linens.  I know you might be saying, as I did, I can purchase a pair of sheets cheap. Why should I spend good money on sheets? Is there really a difference? Yes, yes, there is. I discovered this the first time I slept in a luxury hotel.  I recently received a pair of Second Skin Sheets  from Perfect Linens made with an airy mid-weight 400 thread count combed cotton and a rare enzyme treatment so softness cannot wash out. After the first night sleeping on these sheets, I was sold.  I knew these sheets would be on my bed the rest of my life and needed proper care.

Here’s how to care for luxury linens:
1.  Wash the sheets in warm, not hot, water.  Heat breaks down the enzymes in the threads and reduces the lifespan of your linens.

2. Don’t wash your sheets with other items besides bedding.  I am the first person to throw a load of laundry into the washing machine all together; towels, socks, sheets, you name it, if it’s there and I’m in a hurry, in it goes. Unfortunately, the friction from other materials will break down the fibers in the sheets. Who knew?

3. Use a gentle laundry detergent or specially made fabric wash.  The gentle formula helps extend the life of your linens.

4.  Do not use bleach. Not only will this weaken the natural fibers, it could cause them to turn yellow. No one wants that!

5. Dry on a gentle cycle with low heat. Drying the sheets on a clothes line outdoors will also work, but is not practical for those of us who live in the city or have allergies.

6. Allowing the sheets to “overdry” or set in the dryer can also cause wrinkles. Luxury sheets can be ironed, but who wants to do that? For those of us who hate to iron and only do so grudgingly,  Perfect Linens has a solution: remove the sheets while slightly damp and place on the bed. Smooth out the wrinkles with your hands.

My thoughts on my Second Skin sheets from Perfect Linens:  These sheets are probably the softest sheets I have ever owned. Lightweight and comfy, these sheets aren’t clingy but keep me wrapped comfortably all night. They are available with three types of embroidery trim. I chose the blue double strip, but they are also available in fern green and ribbon, a blue/green combination.  I am impressed with the 45 night LOVE IT guarantee, which allows you to return sheets you have opened, used and washed for 45 days of receipt.  Perfect Linens only sells sheets, and has done so for 21 years, so they’ve become an expert on testing and finding the perfect sheets.

Have you ever tried Luxury bedding? What are your thoughts?
