Homemade Butterfinger Crunch Bars

If you like the flavor of butterfingers but wished they came in a softer, less crunchy version, this Homemade Butterfinger Crunch Bars recipe is for you. It’s got all the traditional butterscotch flavor of butterfingers in a creamy candy studded with marshmallows, peanuts, and pretzels.

Homemade Butterfinger Crunch Bars

The beauty of these bars is that they are no-bake and can be mixed together in around ten minutes. They use common ingredients you can pick up at the local grocery store and are a hit with butterscotch lovers. If you plan on taking the bars to a party or get-together, make them at least two hours in advance to give them a chance to harden.

What you need to make them:

  • butterscotch baking chips
  • cream or milk
  • marshmallows
  • pretzels
  • peanuts
  • chocolate melts

Can I substitute ingredients?

Of course! Feel free to make this recipe to your family’s tastes. Here’s some of our favorite subs:

  • peanut butter chips instead of butterscotch chips
  • cashews or almonds instead of peanuts
  • white chocolate or dark chocolate melts instead of milk chocolate melts
  • or feel free to serve the bars without the chocolate coating

How long can I keep butterscotch chips in my pantry?

You can store butterscotch chips in a cool, dry place for up to 12 months. Be sure they are unopened or stored in an airtight storage bag. It’s not recommended to freeze or refrigerate butterscotch chips as this could cause color and texture changes.

How to easily melt chips in the microwave

Place the chips in a microwave-safe bowl. Add a tablespoon of cream to the chips. Microwave for 30 seconds on high. Remove and stir. If mixture seems to be clumpy or gritty, add another tablespoon of cream or milk and stir until smooth. The chips may have to microwaved for 1 to 1 1/2 minutes to be completely melted. If so, remove from microwave and stir in 30 second intervals.

How to make this gluten-free:

All of the ingredients in the recipe are naturally gluten-free except for the pretzels. Substitute gluten-free pretzels and you’ll have a gluten-free candy.

Preparation Tips:

  • To keep these from sticking to the pan and make for easy removal, line the pan with waxed or parchment paper that has been spritzed with non-stick cooking spray
  • An 8″ by 8″ baking dish is the perfect size to make this recipe or you can roll the mixtures into balls, allow them to harden, then dip them.
  • This recipe can easily be doubled or tripled.
  • You can freeze these, wrapped tightly in waxed paper, and stored in an airtight storage bag, for up to two months.
  • They can be stored in the refrigerator for up to a month-if they last that long.
