Easy Hot Pepper Sauce Recipe

My mom was a big fan of serving beans with every meal. Pinto beans, butter beans, green beans, pork-and-beans, whatever kind of beans. One of these appeared at our table for dinner every day. I didn’t share this love of beans. The solution? Jars of homemade hot pepper sauce to ladle over my beans. I’d add several spoonfuls to drown out the taste of beans. Even though my tastes have changed and I enjoy most types of beans, I still love a good hot pepper sauce. Here’s the hot pepper sauce recipe I make often. easy-hot-pepper-sauce

Easy Hot Pepper Sauce Recipe

I used habaneros (the thick, yellow peppers) and serranos (the long, thin green ones) in my recipe because that’s what I’m harvesting out of my garden. Feel free to substitute your favorite type. Use this sauce in any recipe that calls for traditional hot pepper sauce. Easy-hot-pepper-sauce

What You’ll Need:

Peppers of Your Choice
Minced Fresh Garlic
Salt & Pepper
Sugar
White Vinegar
Olive Oil- I use extra virgin but you whatever you have available easy-hot-pepper-sauce

How to Make it

1. Chop the stems off your peppers. Don’t bother to cut them into slices unless you want too.
2. Mix the garlic, salt, pepper, sugar, and vinegar together in a small saucepan. I like garlic so I add a heaping teaspoon.  Stir in a spoonful of olive oil if you want. This makes the sauce hotter. Leave it out if you want less heat. Bring the mixture to a boil.  Boil around 1 minute and remove from heat.
3. Stuff your peppers in a clean pint jar. (Really-stuff them in there. You want them to be packed tightly.)
4. Pour the heated vinegar mixture over the peppers. Seal up your jar and store it in the fridge.

Tips

*Want more heat? Use peppers with a higher heat score.
*Don’t get rid of the peppers! Chop them up and use them in omelets, tacos, scrambled eggs, unstuffed peppers, Spanish Rice, spaghetti, and more.
*Olive oil helps bring out the heat so leave it out if you prefer a milder sauce. *You can double or triple the recipe. *This can be kept in the refrigerator for 3 to 6 months.
