Chocolate Covered Gummy Bears Recipe

I first discovered these little bites of deliciousness in-you guessed it- a gourmet candy store. The price of $7.99 a pound took me by surprise but I was curious and ordered 1/4 of a pound. I found that although I enjoyed them, I kept thinking, “I could make these for a lot less.” Not only are they simple and thrifty to make, but they’re also no-bake and naturally gluten-free.

What you need to make chocolate-covered gummy bears:

It’s only two ingredients. Seriously. How easy is that?

  • chocolate melts
  • gummy bears

Preparation Hints:

  • You can use either the small gummy bears or, to make them like the ones you find in candy stores, use the large gummy bears. I used a package of Trolli Big Bold Bears which were (according to the package) “4x larger than the average gummy bear.” I picked up a bag of them at Dollar Tree. The bag contained 14 large bears.
  • You can use any type of chocolate bark you like; dark, milk, white, or colored candy melts to change the bears up for different holidays. If you want the true gourmet experience, pick up some Ghiradelli chocolate melts. Or, pick up a 24-ounce package of chocolate bark at Aldi’s for around $3.00. Look for it in the baking section.

How to Make Chocolate Covered Gummy Bears

  • Melt two squares of chocolate bark (from the 24-ounce package). You can do this in the microwave. Just place 2 squares in a microwave-safe bowl and heat on high for 1 minute. If the bark is not completely melted, return to the microwave for an additional 10-15 seconds. Stir until smooth.
  • Spritz a piece of waxed or parchment paper with non-stick cooking spray.
  • Place gummy bears, 3 or 4 at a time, in melted chocolate. Using a spoon, turn the bears in the chocolate until they are coated with chocolate. Use the spoon to gently place the bear on the waxed or parchment paper.
  • Allow the chocolate to harden. This can be done on the counter or the bears can be placed in the fridge for around 5-10 minutes.
  • Store in an airtight storage container in a cool, dry place for up to 1 month.

Can you substitute other candies or cookies?

Yes, you can! Here are some good choices:

  • Gummy worms (dip half of the worm in chocolate and leave the other half uncoated)
  • Candy canes (dip the top half into the chocolate and leave the rest uncoated)
  • Dip half of a sugar cookie into chocolate, sprinkle with pecans or peanuts
  • Dip animal crackers or graham bears (like Teddy Grahams) in chocolate
  • Dip pretzels in chocolate, drizzle with a different color of candy melts
  • Dip Rice Krispie treats in chocolate
  • Cinnamon gummy bears
