The Simply Southern Mom 2014 Pet Products Gift Guide

We have a bevy of spoiled pets, ranging from one especially cute baby doll sheep, to several cats and a spoiled mutt.  Long ago, when the kids were young, they began to complain about the injustice of the pets not getting a present at Christmas. “Why don’t they get presents when everyone else does?”  I hung up a stocking with their names written on it, Santa brought them an extra can of food apiece and the rest is history. We began a tradition that continues until this day.  Nicholai, our sheep, lives outdoors, so he is given an extra cup of grain on Christmas, but the rest of the pets look forward to the traditional opening of presents.  This is mainly because they love to play in the boxes and tear up the paper, but they enjoy the gifts too.  Wondering what to get your pet or the crazy cat lady or dog lover in your family?  Well, wonder no more! I’ve included four great gifts in my Pet Products gift guide that are sure to please.
sherpa pet carrier

1.  Sherpa Original Deluxe Travel Pet Carriers
For the discriminating pet on the go, these sturdy carriers are guaranteed on board by American Airlines and approved for use on most major airlines. (The last time I flew I saw two people using these on board our plane!) Made for pets up to sixteen pounds, they have a comfortable faux lambskin padding. It’s also machine washable, which is important if your pet has motion sickness or gets scared during transport. Our cats love to sit in it, which makes it easy to get them into it when we need to make a quick trip to the vet!  The cute cat is not included.
godog

2. goDog® BedZzz™
Designed to stand up to tough love, these beds are made with Chew Guard Technology™, a proprietary process that adds a tear-resistant mesh lining to all of our products.  This is especially important if your dog, like Rio, believes everything is made to be eaten.  Seriously, this little guy tries to check up anything he can sink his teeth into, so why should his bed be off limits? These beds are soft, comfy, and have been a hit with the cats too, who are giving Rio a run for his money on who can sit there first.

godog toys
3.  goDog Toys
Rio believes any toy needs a good chew. Most of the time I barely have time to make pictures before Rio tries to gnaw a hole in the toy. Toys have to be pretty tough to withstand the Rio chewing fits. The goDog toys are made with Chew Guard Technology, making it much more difficult to gnaw off an arm, leg or hat. I notice the cats are always happy to help Rio bat this toy around the house too.
tailtherapy leashes

4. TailTherapy™ Cat & Dog Products
Who needs retail therapy when you have Tail Therapy? This is a signature line of products for dogs, cats and dog and cat lovers. Including hats, leashes, water bottles and more. all the pieces are adorned with adorable artwork.  Their six foot leashes are custom made and snap easily onto collars. I love the fact that a portion of each sale is donated to organizations that focus on animal therapy programs.  (Rio has spent time as a pet therapist at a local nursing home and has been quiet a hit.  His leash certainly comes in handy while he is there!)
Bella Bowls

5. Loving Pets Robusto Bowls
I
love these bowls, and so does Trix, as you can tell from his paw carefully guarding the bowl.  These bowls, made with a ceramic-like interior and aluminum construction exterior are available in sizes xsmall to large. The interior features cute designs, bones for dogs and paws for cats. While the bowls are made for indoor use and are hand wash only, they are easy to clean.  Loving Pets tested these bowls for durability, running over it with a 6000 pound truck, without causing a crack! I admit, I have not ran over one of the bowls with the car, but these bowls have stood up to the rigor of a bevy of cats all trying to pull the bowl toward them to get to the food.
bella spill proof mat

6. Bella Spill Proof Pet Mat
Sometimes I am sure our pets are plotting to kill me, especially when they slide their bowls around the floor and spill water everywhere. Walking through the house one night, not realizing the water bowl had been spilled, I slid across the floor and fractured my knee.  Since then I have believed in the importance of non skid mats to hold their food and water.   The Bella Spill Proof Mat, designed with a fun  raised bone pattern, has raised edges to keep spills from going overboard, a slip-resistant, surface, and anti-skid feet to prevent slips, slides, noise and floor damage.  It’s also non-toxic and BPA-free.  The best part? It’s so easy to clean! Just rinse with water and it’s done.
allergen blocker

7. Nature’s Miracle Allergen Blocker
While no one in my immediate family is allergic to our pets, I have friends and family members who are.  I can put up the pets when they visit and try to keep the house clean, but there’s always some pet dander left over.  That’s where these wipes and spray,  developed and Tested by Allergist Dr. C. Steven Smith, come into play. All I have to do is spray the cats every two weeks and it neutralizes inanimate pet dander, breaks down the allergen proteins and deodorizes their coat.  It smells fresh and the pets don’t mind being sprayed, although they look at me like I am a little loony.  The Allergen wipes are safe to use on furniture and household surfaces. Just wipe and throw away. It’s much easier than having to make a choice between a beloved pet and allergies!
