The 2014 Simply Southern Mom Kid’s Entertainment Gift Guide

Who doesn’t love a touch of nostalgia during the holidays?  This year my kids will be thrilled to see some of their old Nickelodeon favorites available and waiting for them under the tree.  Here’s our list of old favorites available now.

Danny Phantom the Complete Series
1. Danny Phantom., the complete series.  Released in January, 2014 from Shout Factory, this nine disc set focuses on the adventures of fourteen year old Danny.  He’s a good natured teen who lives with his ghost hunting parents and older sister, Jasmine.  A freak accident leaves Danny half ghost and half human. Danny suddenly finds himself fighting ghost attacks on his city and trying to keep his secret from everyone but his two best friends.  We still get a kick out of seeing Danny battling his arch-rival, half-ghost, Vlad.

Hey Arnold the complete series

2. Hey Arnold, the complete series.  Released as a Walmart exclusive in November, 2014,  Hey Arnold focuses on fourth grader Arnold, who lives with his grandparents in the city of Hillwood.  Arnold is an easy going kid who faces every day problems, like constant bullying from his classmate, Helga. He tries to help everyone around him and always sees the best in people, even when they might not deserve it. One of our favorite characters is Abner, Arnold’s pet pot-bellied pig, who barely escaped being turned into bar-b-que pork by Arnold’s grandfather.
Thunder_and_the_House_of_Magic

3.  Thunder and the House of Magic.  This movie was new to us, but based on our love of cats, I knew we had to see it.  It’s an animated movie based on Thunder, an abandoned kitten. One day, seeking shelter from a storm, he wanders into an old house owned by an eccentric magician and his collection of animals.  Thunder feels at home with this strange menagerie and loves living there.  When his new home is threatened by the Magician’s evil nephew, it is up to Thunder and the other animals to save the home.

Just Dance 2015

4. Just Dance 2015.  Okay, I can say this is for the kids to help keep them in shape, but it is really for me.  I love the Just Dance series. I spend my time singing the latest hits to give me motivation when I try to clean the house, so having Just Dance to use for exercise makes exercise seem fun.  This year, the tape includes hits by artists such as  Katy Perry (“Dark Horse”), Rixton (“Me and My Broken Heart”) and 5 Seconds of Summer (“She Looks so Perfect”).  It’s a good way to stay in shape while the weather outside is frightful.  I will even share it with the kids as long as they listen to me singing along.  Just Dance, distributd by  Ubisoft,  is available for Wii, XBox and Playstation.

What are your movie and game picks for this year?
