Spooky Halloween Party Ideas

Good Cook Cupcake Holder
This is actually a three tier stand but I took it apart for easier transportation and to get an up close look at the details.

Are you ready to party? Halloween Party, that is. Every year on Halloween evening, we gather with friends and take the kids treat or treating. Last year was the first year that no one wanted to go trick or treating, so we decided to gather together for a party anyway.  We had all sorts of spooky treats, let the kids hand out candy to trick or treaters and took a walk through the neighborhood to look at the decorations and costumes.   This year I wanted to create some new “tricks” with our treats. I made candy ghosts and fudge topped with candy ghosts and plan on displaying it on the Good Cook Cupcake Holder.

3tierstand
The entire 3 tier stand loaded with Spooky Graveyard Butterfinger cupcakes.

One of our family traditions is to carve a pumpkin.  I was feeling overwhelmed with the amount of baking I had to do so I handed the pumpkin to the kids, gave them a Pumpkin Carving set with stencils  we had received from Good Cook  and told them to knock themselves out.  Truthfully, I had expected dismal results because we are not master carvers by any means, but they brought the pumpkin inside to show me the “spooky bat” they had carved and I was impressed.

Our “masterpiece” this Halloween was supposed to be  a Haunted House.  Although the kids decorate a haunted house every year,  I had never made one “from scratch” before.  I usually purchased the kit. This year, thanks to Good Cook, I was sent a kit to design and bake my own.  “How hard can it be?” I thought.  Apparently, very hard. I made the gingerbread recipe and must not have gotten it hard enough, but the house was crumbly.  When we  tried to add the roof, we had a disaster in the making.  The roof broke in half and no amount of royal icing would hold it together.  I used some dowels to hold it together long enough to snap a picture.  The kids took one look at the pieces and started laughing.  They did some decorating–as much as they were able before it totally fell to bits.  My daughter finally told me we should give up and made a tombstone that said, “RIP House.” It didn’t matter that it turned out badly. We made memories that I am sure will be talked about for years to come.  “Remember when Mom made the Gingerbread house that flopped?”  Thanks goodness our Butterfinger Graveyard Cupcakes turned out well and look super cute displayed then on this cupcake stand.

Haunted Halloween House
Our Epic Fail of a House. It was definitely scary!

Add some treat bags to hand out and we will be ready to party until the cows come home (or little spooks, whatever the case may be.)

How do you plan to celebrate Halloween? Do you have any spooky good treats planned? Do you have any advice on how to make gingerbread houses?

  3. Love all of these ideas but I especially love the Jack O’ Lantern. My husband carves these with our boys every year so I can totally appreciate all of the work and creativity that goes into carving one out.

  7. Your kids did a great job with the pumpkin and the house! Love the cake stand! We love Halloween and try to add something new for the family to do or make every year.

  8. The pumpkin actually did turn out ok. I plan on celebrating this Halloween a little differently. Since hubby is working that night I will have to take the kids out. Last year I stayed at home with Madison since she was a baby, but now she’s a toddler and already has her costume we’re going trick or treating for a few minutes then come home to hand out candy. 🙂

  9. Making a gingerbread house from scratch is super hard! I tried to make one for Valentines Day last year and a half hour into it, I dumped the whole thing in the trash. You did much better than I did lol.

  10. Looks like you all are having a ton of fun over there! Love all the treats and creative ideas! The RIP House made me smile, I’ve certainly been there with plenty of gingerbread house mishaps. I still think yours is adorable, though. The pumpkin is amazing, too!

  11. Haha it may not have turned out like a Martha Stewart project, but I still don’t think your little haunted house was an “epic fail.” 😉

The bat pumpkin your daughter is holding turned out great; I think she should say she did it free-handed and refrain from mentioning the stencils to people. That’s what I would do. LOL

And the 3-tier stand looks awesome! You are a true Halloween expert!

  12. RIP was a great idea for the kids to come up with! I am glad you could all laugh about the disaster–heck I should have RIP signs made up for almost everything I attempt!! Everything looks really delicious and I am sure you will all have a great time.

  13. I love the haunted house! The first time I ever made a gingerbread house, it looked like the leaning tower of pisa!

  14. I have had plenty of epic fails on at home cooking crafts as well. I love that you shared that because it shows that things don’t always turn out like the picture. 🙂 Love the cupcakes.

  15. I love that haunted house. That’s such a fun idea that I need to try with my preschooler. This is our first year carving pumpkins now that my son is old enough. We need to try a carving kit like you. We already went to a Pumpkin Patch and picked out a couple of pumpkins, so we are almost ready for Halloween!

  16. I so love this and what a great way to get the excitement going for a party! Love those ghosts.

  17. I think everything turned out great including the carved pumpkin! My sons are grown adults now so I do decorate the house but usually just for fall with a few Halloween things. We have a big Trick or Treat crowd where we live and we always hand out candy.

  18. I really like your 3 Tier Stand, and all those cupcakes and treats make it even better. Tell your Daughter that she has lips like all the actresses are after… only they have to use botox to get that effect.
