Serving Up Family Fun

Although my husband is usually at work and my oldest is away at college, I try to encourage Family Game Night whenever I can. I allow the kids to choose the games they want to play with “hints” from me on some games I’d like. I keep our meal simple on game nights, serving kid friendly fare that allows me to spend more time with my family.

For our latest family night, I wanted to try my hand at recipe creation. The kids enjoy Tyson Chicken nuggets but I wanted to spice things up a bit. I wanted to make a chicken Caesar Salad or a simple Chicken Parmesan. The kids asked if we could have wraps instead. A meal solution that is quick, portable and tasty? Sure! Sign me up! I found a recipe for Homemade French Dressing made with Heinz Ketchup to add a spicy zing to the wraps and went to Walmart to purchase the needed supplies.

Twister has changed since I was a kid! The new version would be great for teens.

The wraps were super easy to make, with the entire process taking less than 30 minutes. I served them with some zesty Ore Ida French Fries and offered ice cream sundaes for dessert. The entire meal was a hit! After dinner we settled down for the game of Life. At first the nine year old was slightly confused. He was thrilled to have the lowest salary. As his debts began mounting, he asked what was happening. I took advantage of this moment to give a short budgeting explanation. He replied, “We’re playing this again and next time I’m going to try to draw a larger salary!” Next week, we’ll try Operation. Maybe I can convince one of the kids to enter medical school!

Here’s my Wrap Recipe with Homemade French Dressing.

Ingredients for Wraps:
4 Flour Tortillas
20 Tyson Chicken Nuggets
1 tablespoon Greek Seasoning
1 cup lettuce
½ cup shredded cheese

Directions:
Place Nuggets on a baking sheet and sprinkle with Greek seasoning. Bake as directed. Heat flour tortillas for 30 seconds in microwave. Add ¼ cup lettuce and 1/8 cup cheese to the bottom of each wrap. Slice chicken nuggets into chunks. Add five sliced nuggets to each wrap. Drizzle with French Dressing if desired. Fold and Serve.

Ingredients for French Dressing:
1/2 cup virgin olive oil
1/4 cup wine vinegar of your choice
1 teaspoon minced garlic
1/2 cup ketchup
2 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon freshly grated onion
1 teaspoon Tabasco sauce

Directions:
Add all ingredients to a bowl or jar and shake vigorously until mixed. Dressing may be refrigerated four days.
