Pere Marquette
I received a complementary stay at the Pere Marquette hotel. All opinions are my own.

I love visiting New Orleans but I am not a fan of driving in downtown traffic. I would rather be closer to the action, park my car and walk. If it’s not in walking distance, I am happy to hop on the St. Charles Street Car so I was thrilled when we drove up to the Pere Marquette hotel and found it was only two blocks from the French Quarter and one block from the St. Charles Streetcar. Be prepared-they only have valet parking, which costs $34 a night, plus tax. Thankfully, due to the vintage Parking sign, it is easy to locate their garage.

We walked into the hotel to check in and were immediately greeted by the desk clerk, Nathaniel. He checked us in quickly and gave us an “insider report” on the best places to dine around the city. He patiently answered my questions on where to find the best Po’ Boy and gave me directions to places I wanted to visit, even bringing out a map and marking the route for me.  While I was checking out the business center to receive free wi-fi to meet a few deadlines, Bryan was helping himself to a free copy of US Today and The Wall Street Journal and settling down in our room for some relaxing reading. I finished up as quickly as I could and went to explore the pool. It’s located outdoors on the 3rd floor and provides a quiet, private place to hang out with the kids and catch some rays or splash around. The fitness center is located next door to the pool and is available 24 hours a day.

When evening arrived, I was ready to hit the room for some serious rest and relaxation. The room would have been small for a large family, but there were only three of us on this trip and it was the perfect size. The room included a work space with a desk and wi-fi connection (although inroom internet costs $12.95 a night), a fridge to store our leftover Po’ Boys and a large flat screen television. Each night room service left us a bottle of water and an apple for a before bed snack. Even though we were in the heart of the action, the rooms were quiet, with little noise drifting up from the crowded streets below.

Besides the plush comforter that beckoned me to snuggle and read, I found myself wanting to take long showers in the bathroom under the rainwater shower. The bathroom was stocked with Aveeno products in refreshing herbal scents and thick towels. After all, moms need pampering when on vacation too. The décor in the Pere Marquette caught my eye from the moment I arrived. There are two sitting rooms on the ground floor funky, contemporary décor and window seats, perfect for curling up with a good book or for people watching. Located across from the sitting room is the MiLa Bar, where you can grab a drink or a quick bite to eat. Each floor celebrates a jazz legend, complete with local photography.

The Pere Marquette seems to be kid friendly. Although I saw plenty of business travelers during my stay, I saw several families with kids too.
