I had no intention to adopt a dog when Bryan suggested we stop by the local animal shelter. I passed down the aisle of dogs, thinking how many cute ones were available, until we passed by a small Corgi/Dachshund mix with soulful eyes. We left the shelter with the small dog, now christened “Rio.” Later, after learning our local shelter has to put down 90% of their animals, we became foster parents to Minnie, who was on death row. Adopting and fostering was one of the best decisions we have made! Rio is a loyal companion to my daughter, sleeping with her and spending lots of time snuggling, while Minnie is a loveable furball who enjoys playing fetch the Frisbee and long walks.
Not only do our dogs provide us with companionship, they also provide me with exercise. Minnie has no problem running a couple of miles. I am not a jogger, but she goes fast enough I have to speed walk and sometimes sprint. I’m happy to reward her for motivating me to exercise with some healthy plain dog treats when we get home.
Since we have rescued our dogs, I’m all over companies who help shelter animals so I was thrilled when I was browsing through Sam’s Club and discovered, in honor of Pet Adopt Month in October, Pedigree Dog Food was helping to feed shelter dogs by donating one bowl of dog food for every Pedigree dog product purchased at Sam’s Club during this month. Pretty cool, huh? I could get good nutrition for Rio and Minnie, plus help shelter dogs in need. That equals a big win-win for me! Minnie certainly thinks so too, because she woofed down her can of Pedigree in minutes and began to try to find more!

This is the dog food my neighbor uses. She says her dog loves it!
I grew up with dogs as pets and have lots of good memories of them. I have a cat now and I find he gives me plenty to write and think about. Good thing to hear about the way Pedigree is helping shelters with dog food.

I hate hearing about shelters that still put dogs down who aren’t wanted. Breaks my heart and I wish we had a big enough house to adopt more than the two we have. #client
I think it is great that Pedigree supports animal shelters. I am always donating to our local shelter. People forget to donate there. Instead of taking your old towels or blankets to goodwill, drop them off at a local shelter.
Congrats to Pedigree for supporting shelters. I wish all dog product companies would do the same.
I think everyone should ‘stop by’ and bring home a rescue way before ever considering a fancy/shamancy papered pooch.
Now, you have to know ‘stopping by’ the shelter means bringing home a new furry friend! 😉

3 out of 4 of my dogs are rescues. But 2 of them were rescued from a guy who was just going to drown them when they were all puppies. But we have had them (sisters) for 10 years now and I couldn’t imagine my life without them!
My sister has a rescue. It’s nice to know that a huge company like Pedigree helps out!

Great cause! We adopted two rescued kittens 4 years ago, brother and sister, and they’ve been with us ever since. And we adopted a peppy little Pomeranian who is 12. She thinks she’s a big dog. LOL

This is a really great program. Dogs in pounds have such horrible lives. I know the pounds do everything they can, but it’s still not a great thing for those little guys.

When I was growing up one of our dogs was a rescue dog and while he had so many issues and died much too young from complications, he was the most loving and amazing dog the family has ever had! So great to rescue pets and give them a good home. – Katy

We will not be adopting any more pets… that I can say for sure! haha! What I will do though is share my favorite rescues with my friends and donate to our local shelters.
