Our Dogs Tested The Purina One 28 Day Challenge

This is a partnered post with Purina. It is written by Brittany, as the dogs are staying at her house right now, but all opinions are her own.
Our dogs have tried plenty of different dog foods. From the inexpensive to the kind that should have come in a gold-plated bag, I don’t think there were many on the market that they hadn’t at least tasted. We settled on a formula a while back that worked for all three of our dogs- a puppy, an adult, and a senior. They’re all in good health, so when I was supposed to try them on Purina One for 28 days to see if it made a difference, I was skeptical. How much of a difference could there be?

When we began the challenge, we had to be careful and make sure to mix Purina One with the dog food they were already eating, because our dogs are a little skeptical about changes to their food. They’ll eat socks, trash bags, and grass if we don’t watch them carefully, but mess with their kibble and you can expect a fight. We were able to switch entirely to Purina One in three or four days, which was a lot faster than we usually switch, and the dogs really seemed to enjoy the taste.

One of our dogs, Minnie, has allergy problems. She takes medicine for it and gets baths almost daily, but the allergy issues have left her fur a little sparse and dull in places. Rio, the oldest dog, is a Chihuahua-Dachshund mix that has trouble when kibbles are too big for his mouth. Max, the puppy, needs lots of nutrition while he’s growing to keep him happy and healthy. Finding a single food that works for all of them is like finding the Holy Grail. We decided to try the True Instinct Grain Free Formula, with the added bonus that if a dog got excited and started licking my face after it ate, I wouldn’t have a gluten reaction. Win win.

At first, there was no real difference in how the dogs were. Now, at the end of the challenge, Minnie’s fur is starting to look better, Max has – if it’s possible – even more energy than he already had, and even Rio has developed a little more pep in his step. The food must taste good, because when the cats think the dogs aren’t looking, they go in to steal a bite or two. The kibbles aren’t too big for Rio, and the formula seems to work for all our dogs- last time they went to the vet, they were the picture of health!
