Modern Comfort & Convenience: Hilton Downtown Lexington

Every member of my family has different expectations when we stay at a hotel, but a few that top all of our lists is a convenient location, the degree of comfort in our room, the noise level and the “child friendliness” factor.  We arrived at the Hilton Downtown Lexington to discover it was in the center of the action, making it a short walk to several of the area museums, the Rupp Arena and located directly across the road from Triangle Park, a pleasant venue filled with fountains where the kids could wade.  I was pleasantly surprised to find the parking garage was easily accessible and guarded around the clock.

While the Hilton Downtown Lexington appeared during our stay to be packed with business travelers, it would be an excellent destination for families attending sporting events and concerts in the Rupp Arena. We took the escalator to the second floor so I could admire the Kentucky Derby based décor; the large fountain stretching for two floors adorned with horses and the masculine lounging areas.  The second floor also connected to a skywalk; allowing us to cross the busy streets of Lexington with no fear of crossing the road in heavy traffic.

Hilton Hotel Room

Our room, located on the eighth floor, offered a lovely view of Triangle Park.  The room was standard sized but featured two queen beds, cushy chairs to rest our weary bodies after a long day of walking around town and a desk work area.  While we did not have a mini fridge, we did have a small coffee bar stocked with all the basics needed to start the day with a hot cup of Joe.  The décor, done in a soothing blue and beige, beckoned us to relax.  The big, fluffy towels in the bathroom were an added bonus.

The first question my children usually ask when we arrive at a hotel is “Where is the pool?” We discovered the indoor pool  and whirlpool on the 3rd floor, located beside the fitness room. I took advantage of the state of the art equipment. (Who knew you could watch a mini television on the screen of the elliptical machine, making exercise much less boring?)

I was sad to depart from the Lexington Hilton, having enjoyed our visit and the tranquility of the area.
