Hyatt Baha Mar Resort, Nassau, Bahamas

Why stay in just any hotel when you can have an experience? From the moment you step onto the elegant manicured grounds of the Baha Mar property, you’ll see the difference. Choreographed fountains, tropical greenery, a floor to ceiling fish tank, and comfortable seating nooks scattered throughout the property set the mood for relaxation.

The Baha Mar Experience:

Located on the shores of Cable Beach in Nassau, Bahamas, the Baha Mar offers a tropical getaway for travelers of every age in one of their three luxury properties; the Grand Hyatt, the SLS, and the Rosewood.

The Grand Hyatt– is the largest of the three properties. It features 1800 guest rooms, 230 of which are suites, divided between the East and West towers. The furniture has a clean, modern vibe with pristine white bedding, wood accents, and tile floors. Many of the rooms have balconies with island or ocean views. Hint: The balcony is the perfect spot to view a romantic sunset.

Our room, located in the West Tower, was on the 18th floor and included a large attached patio. We had a breathtaking view of Coral Beach, the surrounding islands in the distance, and the courtyard below.

The SLS – stands for “Service, Luxury, and Style.” This property features 299 rooms, including 107 suites and residences with floor-to-ceiling-windows. The rooms have a modern, sleek and stylish vibe with luxury furnishings. The first SLS hotel in the Caribbean, they offer all of the amenities of the Grand Hyatt, along with two private pools.

The Rosewood– consists of 237 high -end rooms, suites, and villas. Each of these rooms is exquisitely decorated in a modern beach theme. Butler service is included in one-bedroom suites (and above) and all villas. Guests enjoy two dedicated private pools, a private beach area, and access to Sense, the private salon and spa for Rosewood guests.

Baha Mar Fountains
Be sure to watch the nightly fountain show!

All of the hotels offer complimentary Wi-Fi and internet, complimentary access to The Sanctuary, Flamingo Cove, and The Aviary, complimentary access to the ESPA fitness center, complimentary access to the pools and the beach, several complimentary water activities, and two complimentary in-room water bottles per day.

Experiences:

Come for the luxury, but stay for the fun! Whether you’re in the mood for culture, adventure, or rest and relaxation, the Baja Mar has an activity for you.

For All Ages: (Included in the Resort Fee)

The Sanctuary- The Baha Mar is dedicated to conservation efforts and showcases some of the many marine species found in the Bahamas. This is a chance to see turtles, nurse sharks, stingrays, tropical fish and more up close and personal. Daily feedings are held at 10:30 and 1:30. Close Marine Encounters are available for an additional fee.

Baha Mar Flamingo Cay

Flamingo Cay– The birds are available for observation all day, but make time to watch one of the daily flamingo parades held at 9:30 or 11:30. This was one of the most fascinating aspects of the trip for Critter, who, after viewing the flamingos, spent the rest of the trip making flamingo sounds and standing on one leg like a flamingo. Private encounters are available for an additional fee.

The Aviary– is a chance to visit tropical birds and experience hands-on encounters with them. Seed sticks are available for purchase to enhance the experience.

Cable Beach– The water is so clear and blue that Critter remarked: “This is the biggest swimming pool I’ve ever seen!” You can enjoy the water, lounge on the beach, or try one of the complimentary water activities. Paddleboards, kayaks, and snorkel gear are ready for the adventurous. For those seeking relaxation, water hammocks, floating lounges, and personal floats are available. Waterized motor rentals are available for an additional fee.

Baha Mar Hyatt
Tropical beauty abounds at the Hyatt Baha Mar.

Pools- These are not ordinary pools! Kids will want to visit the Grotto, a secluded cave that offers underwater views of the Sanctuary. Another kid favorite is Dean’s Blue Hole, landscaped with waterfalls and featuring 8-foot and 15-foot cliffs for diving. Traditional pools with exotic landscaping are scattered around the property.

For Kids: (Additional fees apply)

Explorers Club- The perfect way to balance couples time and family time, the Explorer’s Club provides activities and experiences for ages 3-12. The vetted staff will entertain the kids with different themes each day; ranging from Marine Monday to Shark-ur-Day Saturday. Three- hour morning and afternoon sessions are offered as well as a four-hour nighttime session.

The Current Gallery and Art Center- showcases 2500 pieces of work by Bahamian artists. You’ll find the art featured when walking throughout the grounds. Viewing the art displayed throughout the hotel is free. Tours and Art classes are available for a fee.

Golf- Designed by Jack Nicklaus, this challenging 18 hole golf course provides dramatic ocean views over the first nine holes. The last nine holes feature the challenges of elevation changes and a jungle landscape.

Shopping- Whether you are in the mood for designer shopping or for finding unique Bahamian items, Baha Mar has a shopper’s paradise. Here you’ll find over twenty shops with brands ranging from Rolex and Lily Pulitzer to Uniquely Bahamian (boutique jewelry) and My Ocean (all items are made by local artisans.)

ESPA Spa – offers treatments and services for men and women. From signature spa treatments like the Pied A Heaven, which uses reflexology on the feet and lower legs to relax the entire body, to the Mankind facial, you’ll find myriad ways to relax. Teens aged thirteen to eighteen can have their own experiences with services like Mock-tails and Manicures.

The use of the fitness center is included in the resort fee and available to all Baha Mar guests. Personal trainers and fitness classes are available for an extra fee.

Tennis- No matter what surface you prefer to play on, one of the nine Baha Mar tennis courts will be right for you. Here you’ll find 6 professional hard courts, 2 Har-Tru clay courts, and 1 grass court. Professional staff is on hand to provide classes for all ages and experience levels.

The Casino- is located at the center of the Baha Mar complex. Boasting over 1000 slot machines and 119 tables, this is the largest casino in the Bahamas.

Dining: No matter what you’re in the mood for, you’re sure to find it at one of the 30 restaurants, bars, and lounges on the property. One of my favorite finds was the cute eateries, like El Jefe (Latin inspired dishes) and Sandy Dog (hot dogs) in Airstream campers located near the beach. It was easy to grab a snack and take it back to a lounge chair on the beach.

Regatta Buffet
A selection of desserts from the Regatta Buffet.

If you are looking for a kid-friendly choice, I suggest the Regatta Buffet. This was the largest buffet I have ever seen! They have something for every taste, from Bahamian favorites like Conch Fritters to delicious salads. The dessert bar features homemade popsicles in kid versions and adult versions. The days we are there they had “Honey Whiskey Popsicles.” The popsicles are even available for breakfast; much to the delight of the kids in our group.

For a treat, try the Cafe Madeleine for baked goods and coffee or Scoops ice cream. And, of course, there’s even a Starbucks for anyone who needs their morning or afternoon caffeine.
