We have just celebrated Veteran’s Day, a time to thank the brave men and women in service for our country. I’ve had countless friends and family members who have served in the military in the past and the present. I have seen how hard it is for them to be separated from their families for months and sometimes years at a time. Most of us recognize the difficulty of leaving behind family, but one factor many people never consider is leaving behind a beloved pet. Many members of our military need to find a home for their pets when they are deployed. If they can’t find a home, many are forced to turn over their beloved pet to a shelter. Imagine leaving for a dangerous job miles away from home and worrying about whether your pet will find a home. That’s where Dogs On Deployment comes in. This national non-profit organization finds responsible volunteers to watch the pet until their owner returns from deployment.
Their mission is to promote responsible, life-long pet ownership by military pet owners by advocating for military pet owner rights, providing educational resources and granting financial assistance for military pet owners during times of emergency.
Want to know how you can help? Purina Pure Love For Pets has teamed up with Dogs on Deployment to raise awareness of the need to foster and care for pets of our military men and women while they are away from home on deployment. You can make a difference by visiting PureLoveforPets.com and answering trivia questions to trigger a donation. Purina® will donate 25¢ for every correct answer, up to $1.25 per day for answering five questions. There are five new questions a day so you can play daily. I tried my hand at answering the questions and was able to answer four of the five correctly. That’s one more dollar raised! Purina will be donating up to $40,000 to this great cause and the game is a fun way to learn new facts. But hurry, the game ends at 11:59:59p.m. Eastern Time on November 18th, 2015. So far only half the goal is met so let’s help our service men and women and their pets!

I definitely applaud Purina for this campaign. To have to leave your beloved pet at a shelter while you go off to protect the rest of us? Does not sound fair to me-I am glad there are volunteers willing and able to take these pets in and care for them until the owners come home.

I love that Purina’s love for animals extends past just providing food for them. This is such a great program that I’ve never heard about until now. If the pets cannot stay with the soldier’s extended family, then I think it’s great that a service like Dogs on Deployment is there to help.

This is such a great cause! I never knew that Dogs of Deployment even existed. I’m sure it offers peace of mind to those deployed and nowhere to leave their dogs. And thanks, Purina, for giving back!
Awww, what a great program! This has to help our soldiers a lot to know that their pets are being loved and protected while they are serving overseas.

I just found out about this program through Purina last week and I am so happy! I know a lot of service men and women who struggle to find someone to take care of their pets when they deploy, this is such an amazing program!
This sounds like such a wonderful campaign with such a great cause! It’s nice to hear that Purina is supporting our soldiers. We don’t have a dog yet but hope to get one soon.

I never heard of this before! I have 2 pups (getting another one on Dec 10) right now. Our home is already pet friendly I would love to help out one of soldiers by being a temp. foster mom 🙂
