5 Ways to Refresh Your Kitchen

When we purchased our home I loved everything about it, except the kitchen. Tired, dated and drab, it screamed, “Give me a makeover!” Since that time I’ve totally redone my kitchen, but sometimes it needs a little refresh. I’ve discovered 5 ways to refresh your kitchen that helped transform my kitchen from drab to fab.

1. Paint the walls and/or cabinets. Our kitchen was a source of dismay to me when we moved into our home. Dark brown cabinetry and brown walls made me feel like I was stepping into a pit of despair. Painting the cabinets a fresh clean white and the walls a cheery yellow automatically lifted my mood and brightened the entire room.

2. Change the light fixture and/or add track lighting under the cabinets. Our kitchen sported an ugly ceiling fan (in dark brown, naturally) and another dark brown light fixture over the sink.  The simple change of an eye catching bronze chandelier and golden pendant lighting over the sink gave the room character and an easy fresh face lift. If the room is still too dark, add strip lighting under the cabinets.

3. Change the hardware on cabinets. There are so many choices in hardware available now. It’s easy to find some that match your personality. You can give the kitchen a classic look, change it to a modern look or give it a fun, funky vibe within an hour to two!

4. Use plants instead of curtains on the windowsill.  Our window had a lovely view, but it was covered with blinds and a heavy curtain. I purchased three plants and placed them in our windowsill. It didn’t obstruct the view from the inside, gave us fresh herbs and eliminated the need for any other window covering. It was a total win-win!

5. Replace your Kitchen Appliances. Have you seen the latest in technology from Kitchen Aid??? Wow! Appliances have come a long way! They look like Chef’s Quality, but come without the Chef’s Quality price tag.  Available in everything from black stainless to built in, they have some great new features, like Even-Heat™ Technology, Exclusive Steam Rack and Steam Bake cooking options and a Baking Drawer for cooking flexibility to keep dishes warm, slow cook or simply bake at a different temperature than the main oven cavity in wall ovens and ranges.  Slide in ranges include traditional freestanding cut-out for a seamless look. They’ve even got an All New Slide-In Downdraft Range  with options in Electric and Dual Fuel for more ways to cook.
Need a new fridge?  How about these features? There’s  NEW French Door Refrigeration Configuration: More Drawers for More Possibilities.  Five Door offers the ultimate in flexibility, organized storage and easier access to food. (And who can’t use more drawers?)  They’re equipped with  soft close pantry drawers, new crispers, and a platinum interior with undershelf lighting.
