Firehouse Subs Lights A Fire At Lunch

Let’s face it, as a busy mom my life doesn’t always resemble June Cleaver’s. While she had dinner on the table each evening –while wearing pearls- I sometimes have to rely on going out to eat. I need to feed my family something quick but don’t want to rely on junk food.  Earlier this week we visited Firehouse Subs and I have decided it will be my new “go to” place for lunch.  It’s fresh, it’s hot and it’s much better than the energy bar I had been having for lunch when I waited for the kids.  While chatting with local franchise owner, Tom Davidson, he hinted that he would soon be coming to my area, meaning I can stop in to purchase the Italian whenever I the craving strikes without having to drive out of my way.

Firehouse Subs prides themselves on serving quality food, exceptional service, and giving back to the community.  The difference is in the quality of the meats and veggies.  The meat is sliced fresh daily, piled high and toasted when the sandwich is prepared. It’s a labor intensive process and takes a little longer to serve but the results are worth the wait.  I noticed my husband and son were chowing down on their sandwiches and would have probably snatched mine too if they had a chance.

Visiting Firehouse Subs is like visiting a friend for lunch. The employees were friendly and attentive, chatting with the customers, many of whom I could tell were regulars, and the restaurant was spotless.  (So it wouldn’t be like visiting my house for lunch.) The décor is donated from local firehouses and the tables are decorated with spots to resemble Dalmations.  That means their tables can never be spotless. Ha! Sorry, sharing a little firehouse humor.

Another attraction is the free standing coke machine.  For anyone who doesn’t have an adventurous teenage son, there are over 120 different drinks to try. For those of us who do have teenage sons, watch out! The combinations are limitless. I had the signature Cherry Limeade, prepared especially for Firehouse Subs.  It’s a lightly sweet beverage with a hint of tartness.

While the company is proud of their food, they are also proud of their involvement in the community providing lifesaving equipment to local fire and police stations.  Our local Firehouse has provided over $100,000 of equipment and works closely with the First Responders program.  One promotion each shop participates in is the $2.00 pickle bucket.  Clean pickle buckets, which can have uses from car washing buckets to storage, are sold and 100% of the proceeds are donated to provide life saving equipment.

Hungry yet? Firehouse Subs has locations in 34 states plus Puerto Rico and kids eat free on Wednesdays.  If you are in the Chattanooga area we have three locations with more to come.

My family received a free meal at our local Firehouse Subs, however, all opinions are my own.
