Return to Neverland

Want to have some family fun and still spend a relaxing evening? Why not do what my family does and have a family movie night. It’s the perfect way to spend time together while still have downtime.  My kids could spend hours watching the original Peter Pan when they were kids.  They knew the songs by heart and spent a lot of time singing them in the car.   Even though they are older, my kids still love Disney.  I decided to plan a family night to coincide with the release of Peter Pan: Return to Neverland from the classics vault.  If you haven’t seen the movie, it’s the sequel to the original Peter Pan movie.

Wendy’s very practical and no-nonsense daughter, Jane, begins the adventure of a lifetime when the infamous Captain Hook whisks her away to the enchanted island of Never Land. It’s up to Peter Pan, Tinker Bell and the Lost Boys to help Jane believe in faith, trust and pixie dust. With the first-ever Lost Girl at his side, will Peter Pan finally defeat Hook and his swashbuckling band of pirates?

Released on August 20th, 2013, Peter Pan: Return to Neverland is available for the first time on Blu-ray in a special collector’s edition with the Blu-ray. the DVD and a digital copy.  The bonus features include deleted scenes, and Pixie Previews.  Why not make a pirate’s treasure map, hide the movie somewhere in the house and let the kids use the map to find it?

I’ve found some creative snack ideas that younger kids can help make before watching Peter Pan: Return to Neverland.

  • Cannon Balls:  Use a melon scooper to make melon balls with cantaloupes, honeydews and watermelon.
  • Pirate Ships:  Place a cube of cheese on a toothpick and slide it into a slice of apple. Voila! Instant pirate ship!
  • Pirate Punch:  Pour Blue Kool-aid into a glass.  Cut an orange into segments. Make small pirate flags from paper (cute craft idea for kids) and place on a toothpick. Stick the toothpick into the orange and place a segment on top of the Kool-aid. You’ll have a pirate ship floating in the blue sea.

Are you ready to Return to Neverland with Peter?  What are your family night ideas?
