“Are you sure Santa likes clean houses?” my daughter, then four, asked. “Absolutely positive,” I replied, as we set about our annual Christmas cleaning. Having holiday traditions is important. My kids, who have always liked structure, have activities we participate in year after year. While they don’t like the traditional cleaning, they are quick to remind me of the need to visit the Christmas tree farm the day after Thanksgiving for our annual tree cutting, when we need to display the Advent calendar and to not forget to buy the ingredients to make reindeer food. We definitely do not need Rudolph going hungry!
My son has a special tradition he wants every year; a gift basket from Hickory Farms. As soon as he sees the Hickory Farms displays in the store or at the mall, he gives me a list of his choice of gift basket and asks they be put on his Christmas list. Since my kids have a five item limit on what they can request, with the knowledge that Santa picks and chooses from the list, this is a big deal to him. Over the years they have managed to whittle down the list to two items they really want and the Hickory Farms gift basket always makes his list. This year I surprised him with a with a Hickory Farms Sausage and Cheese basket. With so many things going on in my life, it took me a few days to make pictures. The wait to eat his favorites was grating oh him. “Mom,” he asked daily, “How soon can we eat this?” As soon as the first picture was snapped, he walked by carrying all the cheese from the basket and asked, “What cheese do you want to try first?” It was a happy day for him as he sampled the cheeses and sausages from the gift basket. I noticed when I prepared dinner that evening the specialty mustards were sitting on the table to be used with our meal.

I remember relatives bringing Hickory Farms gift baskets to our Christmas celebrations and the nostalgic memories I have of sharing treats with my cousins.
