Banana Cream Pie Shake Recipe

Banana Creme Pie Shake

Summer in the South means hot, humid days, sometimes so sweltering that the only time people step outside is to make a run for their car. It’s day like this that I crave ice cream. I imagine cool, creamy shakes, dripping with whipped cream and topped with a cherry. I have so many favorites and on days when we celebrate with homemade ice cream that I can use in my shakes, well, just don’t step between me and my ice cream. This year, since I’ve been dieting, I created this recipe using lowfat ingredients that thick, rich and as good as the real thing. You can use full calorie products if you prefer, but this version tastes great with less calories. Indulge with a small dab of lowfat whipped cream and a cherry if you want.  No one will know it is missing the key ingredient–ice cream!

Serves: 3
A smooth, creamy shake that cuts calories but tastes as good as the full fat version.
Ingredients
  • 1 container (6 ounces) low fat banana cream pie yogurt
  • 1 banana, broken into chunks
  • 1 package (3 ounce) sugar free banana pudding mix (I used jello brand)
  • 1 cup (8 ounces) skim milk
Instructions
  1. Combine all ingredients into a blender. Blend on low speed until completely blended. Pour into glasses and serve immediately.

This recipe can be adapted to make any flavor shake you would like.  I plan to make peach, pineapple and strawberry soon.  Just substitute the correct flavors of yogurt, pudding and fruit and voila! new flavor combination.  These shakes look so pretty when garnished with a fresh piece of fruit.

What is your favorite summer treat to help you beat the heat? Do you have some lower calorie snack suggestions?
