A Walk Down My Memory Lane

I got married years ago, way back in the VHS age. I carefully preserved my wedding and my wedding rehearsal on video to make sure I could share them with the kids. Who could forget those classic moments? When I walked down the aisle my dad managed to step on the long train of my dress. As we proceeded down the aisle, he moved further and further onto my dress until I was being pulled to one side. “You’re on my dress!” I whispered.  “What did you say?” he asked.  Being hard of hearing, I had to bend over and tell him in a normal tone, “You’re stepping on my dress!” Everyone in the church heard it.

Or when one set of Bryan’s grandparents told the usher, “Bryan”, and he thought they said “Bride.”  They were promptly seated with the bride’s side of the family.  The kids giggle whenever they hear the two of them arguing.
Grandmother:  “We’re on the wrong side. We’re supposed to be over there with Bryan.”
Grandfather:  “Just sit still. It will be fine.”
Grandmother: “No. No, it won’t. I moving.”
Grandfather: “Sit still!”
Grandmother: (moving) “I will not. I am going over to the right side of the family!”

The wedding rehearsal was just as bad.  My dad was performing part of the ceremony and didn’t want to use our vows. The ensuing argument over his changing the ceremony involved all the women in my family taking my side, while the men rolled their eyes. Thankfully, the cameraman turned off the recorder after a few minutes, but I laugh now when I see all the women rushing to my rescue.

All of our memories were preserved, but as the vhs age passed, the tapes were placed in the back of closet, unused and forgotten.  When I was offered a chance to preserve our memories with Yes Video,  I happily agreed. They accept VHS tapes, Camcorder tapes, movie film reels and 35 mm slides and offer a safe and secure ordering process, guarding our memories like their own, with surveillance cameras at every stage, and digital copies of the transferred videos are archived for added security.

My dad has several old film reels of his family members, most of whom have since passed away. I know this would be a special holiday gift for him.  .

The kids and their friends have had a blast watching the wedding video and teasing Bryan about, “The shortest kiss we have ever seen at a wedding. Why even bother?” I’m glad we have our memories preserved once again.

Do you know someone that would appreciate seeing their old movies or videos again? What moment would you preserve?

  14. We just attended a wedding for my husband’s cousin that was full of mishaps. The funniest one was when the preacher called the husband the bride. He’d had so many mistakes by then, that it broke the camel’s back and everyone just laughed. Fortunately all were good sports about it, but it’s not going to make for good video, lol
