Make Your Own Candy Kisses Recipe

“I want one of these!” That’s the first thing my kids would say when they spotted the giant kisses available around different holidays. Somehow my kids could be drawn to these kisses, like tiny chocolate magnets, no matter where we were in a store.  My admonition, “You don’t need that,” would fall on deaf ears as they planned ways to get a large candy kiss of their own.  As a sign I had trained them well in the ways of conserving money, I would hear one of them say, “I’m going to wait until it goes on sale for 1/2 price after the holiday. Then I will buy one for myself!” Usually this prompted one to appear in their stocking, Easter Basket or Valentine’s Day gifts.  Imagine my surprise when I realized how easy and inexpensive it was to make these kisses instead of purchasing them.  Not only does it take minutes to make, I can customize the flavor any way I like.  Plus, my  Celiac daughter is also able to partake of the chocolately goodness. Homemade kisses 2

True Story: Bryan is allergic to chocolate.  Yeah,I didn’t know this for a year while we were dating and spent a lot of time trying to get him to take bites of whatever chocolate yumminess I made. His dad spilled the beans when he asked me how soon I would make “some more of that candy Bryan didn’t want” so he could eat it. This chocolate allergy makes it hard to prepare kisses everyone can eat.  When white chocolate candy melts go on sale for 1/2 price after Christmas I stock up on the melts and freeze them.  All you need to make these kisses is a bag of chocolate melts in your favorite flavor and a medium sized funnel.  I bought a package of  3 funnels (small, medium and large) at the dollar store for $2.

Ingredients for homemade kisses
With one package of candy melts I was able to fill the small and medium funnel. Before you begin make sure to spray the funnels with cooking spray to prevent sticking. Also, place a small amount of crumpled aluminum foil in the end of the funnel.

Place the kisses in the freezer and allow them to harden for several hours (at least two.) Remove from the freezer and gently shake them to release them from the funnel. Wrap them in a layer of aluminum foil and twist the top of the foil. If you want to be fancy, wrap a white straw wrapper around them and write a message.

 Love & Kisses candy
And, voila! You have hugs for your family! These were a big hit with everyone in the family. We all split the smaller kiss and it was tasty!
What is your favorite easy holiday treat?

  8. What a really cool idea! As these are three different funnel sizes, I’m guessing these are like the big jumbo kisses and not the bite-sized ones? Thanks so much for sharing. Stopping by from SITS Saturday Sharefest. I hope you have a great rest of your weekend!

Genius! I am like you, I buy the baking and candy chocolate when it goes on sale and stock up. Hubs isn’t much of a sweet person, but these would be great for gifts throughout the year.

  25. Those look super yummy, I never knew how to make homemade kisses but glad I do now!

  26. How awful to have a chocolate allergy! We can relate a little though because our son has a sensitivity to amines, which are in chocolate, among many other things! He can have them some though, as long as we are controlling the allergy situation overall and he doesn’t have too much amines in a short period of time, basically. It’s always good to be able to find a way to enjoy treats you can’t normally have if they are store bought!!

  27. Yum I would try, how big is that though? I wonder if I can find really small funnels. Fun treat!

    • The small one is about the size of one of the oversized Hershey kisses you can find in the seasonal section. The other kiss is probably an inch bigger.
