Gluten Free Fridays 5

Happy Friday! It’s everyone’s favorite part of the week. No, not the weekend- it’s Gluten Free Friday! Every Friday, we feature five gluten free and allergen friendly foods that should definitely be on your radar. The world of food allergy friendly foods has really taken off in the last few years, and there are a lot of options out there now. It can be hard to decide what you want to try and what you should probably skip. Luckily for you, we’ve partnered with some great companies and we’ve tried their products so you don’t have to! This week we also have a bonus surprise for you: a kitchen gadget that is going to make your life so much easier. Well, let’s get started!

180 Nutrition
1. 180 Nutrition  makes protein powders loaded with superfoods like chia seeds. Available in chocolate and coconut flavors, 180 nutrition makes a great meal or snack replacement. It’s 100% natural and, obviously, gluten free. (Hint: Be sure to use a blender to mix it correctly.) Blend your favorite flavor with your favorite fruit and your choice of milk or water to make a shake you can drink on the go. Our favorite flavor was the cocoa. Pro-tip: you can also use this in baking.
Contains: Dairy (whey), Tree Nuts, Coconut, Sesame
Good For: Breakfast, people on the go, anyone trying to sneak in some superfoods

Buckwhat noshes
2. BuckWhat Foods is making snack foods with buckwheat. Despite having “wheat” in the name, buckwheat is actually a gluten free grain. BuckWHAT snacks are low calorie, added sugar free, and vegan. Try them plain, or eat the BuckWHAT granola on your favorite yogurt or on top of a smoothie! My favorite was the crunchy peanut flavored Noshes. These are great to pack in your purse or backpack for snacking on the go.
Contains: Tree nuts, peanuts
Good for: snackers, on the go, breakfast, vegans
You can receive 10% off your purchase at their online store using the code SouthernMom.
bfree

3. BFree Foods makes a variety of gluten free bread products that are free of all 8 major allergens! BFree products are also low fat and high fiber. From wraps to hot dog buns, BFree makes just about everything. I love that I can share my BFree breads with my daughter, who can’t eat soy or dairy! When your kid has conflicting food allergies with you and is at the stage when they want to eat everything off your plate, you feel especially thankful for top 8 free products. So far, our favorite BFree product has been the multiseed bagels, but we’re eyeing their pitas pretty hard! BFree bread can be crumblier than normal bread, so you’re going to not want your kid to walk off with this unattended.
Contains: No top 8 allergens
Good for: anyone with multiple allergies, sandwiches, school lunches, picnics, cooking-French Toast, bread crumbs, casseroles

Nuttzo
4. Nuttzo makes a “superbutter” chock full of 7 nuts and seeds! We’re big fans of nut butters and peanut butter in our house, so we were excited to try these out. Nuttzo is gluten free, non-GMO, and kosher. Nuttzo is also vegan. I wound up having to fight off my mom to get a sample of the Nuttzo butters that we were sent, because she immediately pounced upon them for smoothies and sandwiches. Every flavor that I’ve tried was good, and the rest must have been good too, because they’ve disappeared! Nuttzo may not be perfect for picky eaters, as it has a thick texture with noticeable chia seeds.
Contains: Peanuts, Tree Nuts
Good for: snacking, sandwiches, smoothies

8 Myles
5. 8 Myles makes gourmet sauces right here in the USA. They’re gluten free and made with real fruit, which you can actually taste. We got the raspberry barbecue sauce, the pineapple buffalo sauce, and the mango magic sauce, which is a blend of barbecue and buffalo sauce. My dad, who is a bit of a wimp when it comes to spices, stuck to the raspberry barbecue sauce. As a spice lover, I was immediately drawn to the pineapple buffalo sauce. I liked that these sauces were versatile and worked well as a hot sauce for pizza (just try it, I promise) and as a sauce for grilling. We went through these sauces pretty fast, so you’re gonna want to stock up. If you’re not a fan of spice, you may want to start out with the barbecue sauce and work your way up heat-wise.
Contains: Dairy
Good for: grilling season, dips and sauces
Vidalia Onion Chopper
6.  The Vidalia Chop Wizard  is a kitchen gadget that I was skeptical about. I mean, I don’t hate dicing and chopping vegetables, I’m just not very good at it. I know Alton Brown warns against single use kitchen gadgets, so would it really be worth it? Y’all. I am a believer. I cut up four cups of zucchini in about a minute. The Vidalia Chop Wizard comes with a chopping blade and a dicing blade, and is perfect for chopping just about any fruit or vegetable. I really like that I’m now able to chop onions without the tears. Handwashing the Chop Wizard was a little difficult, but the Vidalia Chop Wizard is dishwasher safe, which should make clean up easier.
Good for: people who hate chopping, big families, meal prep

That’s all we have for you this Friday! What would your favorite product from this week be? Is there anything you’re excited to try?
