A few weeks ago I told everyone about the great new book I had reviewed, Dining Out at Home Cookbook 2, by Stephanie Manley. I shared her version of Taco Bell’s Pina Colada Frutista Freeze and her  version of McDonald’s Frozen Strawberry Lemonade.   Being a fan of yummy ice cream drinks, I was thrilled to find she had included several versions of Dairy Queen’s Blizzards.  It’s a bonus that she actually used to work there so she knows exactly how they are made. I found her version of the Turtlette Blizzard, a creamy mixture of chocolate, caramel and pecans, and noticed it only had four ingredients. Woot! I just happened to have all four ingredients on hand since I like to treat myself to an occasional ice cream sundae. Here’s the recipe, plus a couple of adaptions that I added in case you want to change the flavor.

CopyKat Dairy Queen Turtlette Blizzard
Recipe Type: Dessert
Cuisine: American
Author: Stephanie Manley (with adaptions by me)
Prep time:
Total time:
Serves: 1 or 2
An easy to make copycat version of Dairy Queen’s famous blizzard.
Ingredients
  • 2 cups vanilla ice cream softened (Flavor variation: substitute chocolate)
  • 2 teaspoons butterscotch topping (or use caramel)
  • 2 teaspoons Chocolate Magic Shell
  • 2 teaspoons chopped pecans (or use peanuts)
Instructions
  1. Place all ingredients into a blender and blend for twenty to thirty seconds. Pour into a glass (or glasses) and serve.

Voila! See how simple the recipe is? I could whip up one of these everyday, if I didn’t mind all the calories.    I plan to share Stephanie’s amazing recipe for Peanut Butter Parfait Bars in the upcoming weeks. We tried these recently and they were a major hit with my family.   Do you have a favorite Dairy Queen Blizzard flavor? Share it with us!  Have you tried making blizzards at home?
