Captain’s Quarters Resort, Myrtle Beach S.C.

While on our recent vacation to Myrtle Beach, we stayed at the Captain’s Quarters Resort. Located right on the beach and in the heart of the action, Captain’s Quarters Resort is a great choice for families who want to experience all Myrtle Beach has to offer. It’s within walking distance of the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk and Promenade and has  all of the amenities kids will enjoy.

We stayed in a Junior Suite, which featured a bedroom with two queen beds and a flat screen TV, a bathroom, and a living area with a pull out sleeper sofa. The balcony overlooked the ocean and the water park, which was great for spotting when the hammock beside the pool was empty. My daughter was constantly  checking so she could sprint down the stairs and claim that prime real estate for some sunbathing. If a Junior Suite isn’t your style, Captain’s Quarters offers everything from efficiencies (make your own lunch and save money!) to the Miami Suite, a one-of-its-kind room with a whirlpool tub and a waterfall shower.

Besides the rooms, Captain’s Quarters offers plenty of other amenities, including a waterpark for the kids.  During the spring, summer and fall, you may run into Sneaky the Pirate and his pet parrot, Tiki, or Salty the Shark, the official resort mascot. While my kids never got bored of the waterpark, they also enjoyed the indoor and outdoor lazy river. The indoor lazy river was perfect on a cold, rainy day. For parents, there are plenty of whirlpools and hot tubs to visit. Or, if it’s too crowded, visit the pools, lazy river and hot tubs at their sister resort down the road, Blue. It’s included in the amenities.

On a chilly, rainy day we checked out Level Six, which offers bowling, an arcade, and  a bar. Resort guests get one free game of bowling a day, although you still have to pay to rent your bowling shoes. After bowling or playing air hockey,  the bar offers cocktails or  snacks like pizza, burgers, and wings.

If you are too tired to leave the resort, you can have all your meals there.  For breakfast we ate at Vista Nine, located on the ninth floor, which offered a buffet breakfast daily for a reasonable price. My personal favorite was the biscuits with Southern style sausage gravy, a rare treat I never have at home, plus the sauteed potatoes.  The Tipsy Turtle Pool Bar, located by the pool, serves up frozen cocktails and light snacks such as hamburgers and hot dogs daily during peak season. For lunch we tried Loco Gecko, located directly across the parking lot from our room at Captain’s Quarters.

Loco Gecko offered lunch and dinner options including hamburgers, salads, nachos, and- for the more adventurous- Rocky Mountain Oysters. (As it said on the menu, ask your server.) We sampled two of the burgers, the Broken Taco (a taco salad that’s a Loco Gecko specialty), and some nachos. We loved the outdoor seating, which had views of the beach and the Atlantic Ocean, while also offering views of the strip for people watching.

Probably the most popular amenity at Captain’s Quarters is the beach. Captain’s Quarters’ pool area borders the beach, and offers direct access . We spent some time  sunbathing, catching some waves in the still chilly water and walking along to the beach.  When we were tired of the beach, we could pop directly into the pool via the easy access.
