10 Speed Cleaning Hacks

I am a Swiffer Fanatic and this is a partnered post, but all opinions are my own.
I am a person who wants a clean house. It just feels better when I sit down to work if my house is clean. As much as I like a clean house, I’m not a person who likes to spend hours cleaning.  Over the years, I’ve found I can do a few small things a day that can save hours of cleaning time. Here’s 10 speed cleaning hacks  which will make people think you’re on top of your cleaning game.

1. Wipe down counters in the bathrooms and kitchen. Little hands and frequent use can cause water stains, spills and more on counters in bathrooms and kitchens. Wipe the counters first thing in the morning. It’s a chore that takes around five minutes daily, but prevents build up, which will take much longer to remove.

2. Allow cleaners to sit on surfaces for five minutes before removing. Cleaners can take a few minutes to work, especially on tough stains. By allowing them to sit for a few minutes you can save the extra elbow grease of scrubbing.

3.  Have a designated area for paper. Have a designated spot to store bills, school papers and anything else you need to keep. I use a small decorative basket in my kitchen.   It makes the papers easy to find and saves clutter from having the strewn around the house.

4.  Keep all your cleaning tools in one place. Keep all of your cleaners, along with gloves and trash bags, in one basket. It’s easy to move from room to room, allowing you to work quickly, and you don’t have to hunt what you need or run back to another room to grab it.

5. Spot clean.  See a sticky spot on the floor or cabinet? Clean it while it’s wet rather than allowing it to dry. The process will go much quicker and keep anyone from stepping in it (or putting their hands in it!) and spreading it around the house.

6. Get rid of pet hair. Wear a rubber glove and run it across your upholstery. It picks up the hair quickly and easily.

7. Spray shower cleaner as soon as you exit the shower. The shower is still warm and allows the cleaner to work. Bonus, it keeps the shower cleaner without scrubbing!

8. Clean as you go. There’s nothing worse than finishing dinner and realizing you still have to clean the kitchen.  Instead, place pans and utensils in the dishwasher as soon as you’ve finished using them, wipe down the counter and have a sink of warm water available for any items that need to soak.  After dinner clean up will be a breeze.

9. Always have a scented candle warmer available.  If unexpected guests show up, it’s easy to turn this on and cover any stinky smells from cooking or pets.

10. Make sure you have the proper cleaning tools. It’s no secret I’ve been using my Swiffer products for years. My Swiffer Sweeper is used at least once a day. But I never thought twice about purchasing generic refills for my Swiffer products until I visited Swiffer’s headquarters and saw the difference for myself. Swiffer has a patented coating for their refill clothes that picks up so much more.  I recently did an experiment using generic clothes on my kitchen, foyer and hall.  After I used the generic clothes I immediately went over the floors again with Swiffer products. You can see the difference from the pictures. I did the same with my Swiffer Wet Jet with dramatic results.

And have you tried the new Swiffer Sweep+Vac? I had one of these several years ago and loved how it cleaned my floors, but had some problems with the battery life. The improved Swiffer Sweep+Vac has a new and improved rechargeable battery for a longer lasting charge and still cleans my hardwood, laminate and tile floors as well as ever.  It’s cordless and lightweight, making it easy to carry around the house, and has powerful enough suction to remove dirt from grout and crevices.

What is your favorite cleaning hack to make cleaning easier?
