Simplifying and Saving with Walmart Grocery

I tested out Walmart’s Online Grocery service mentioned in this post, and received grocery shopping funds from Walmart in order to do so, but all opinions are my own.

Grocery shopping with a baby is hard, y’all. First, let’s talk car seats. Strapping in a struggling baby is kind of like wrangling a drunk octopus. Then, for some reason, my daughter struggles just as much when we try to take her out of the car seat, like she’s resigned to being trapped forever and resents us for freeing her. Putting her in the grocery cart is a fifteen-step process involving sanitizing wipes and prayer. And don’t even think about putting groceries into the cart without letting her inspect them first (and possibly chew on them.) Plus, we have to stop every few feet to let someone admire Jenna, who has flung herself halfway out of the cart in a desperate bid for attention.  #thestruggleisreal  Enter my new favorite thing: Walmart Grocery.

Walmart is the cheapest place to buy our baby’s special hypoallergenic formula, and since they have everything else we need, we spend a lot of time there. But like I said, it’s a struggle. When I found out that Walmart Grocery had come to our area, I was beyond excited. Is that a mom thing? Walmart Grocery is a simple new service allowing you to pick out your groceries online, schedule a pick-up that is convenient for you, and wait outside Walmart while someone loads them into your car for you. Even better, there’s no markup or service fee for using the service. That means that I can get my daughter’s formula (which costs more than gold per ounce, I swear) brought out to my car for the same price as actually going inside. There is a $30 minimum on orders made with Walmart Grocery. Although if you’re anything like me, you can surpass this easily, it’s good to know these things before you try the service.

I’ve already told you that I like Walmart Grocery for the convenience, but there’s more to it than just that. Have you ever heard of mom brain? That’s what it’s called when you go to Walmart for gluten-free macaroni and come out with forty-two sippy cups because you forgot why you were there. Walmart Grocery means that you’ll actually leave Walmart with what you need. No more forgetting the list or realizing that your baby has literally eaten it while you were trying to decide if one brand of salad dressing was healthier than the other.

Using Walmart Grocery is easy. First, you head to the site. It will ask you to enter your zip code to determine if this service is available in your area. If it is, you’ll be prompted to make an account. It took me approximately a minute to make an account. After you’ve made your account, you can start shopping! The site is easy to peruse, and features sections like “trending in your area,” so you’ll know what everyone else in your small town is eating from Walmart. It also has a “featured” section, and other categories it thinks will interest you. If you don’t see what you want in those categories, you can simply type what you want into the search bar. I typed in the brand of formula we use, and within seconds I had added it to my cart.

Your cart shows on the side of the screen, and prompts you to book a time for your order and check out. Once you hit check out, you’re taken to a screen suggesting some items that are frequently bought with purchases like yours. For us, that was mostly baby things. Walmart knows who is important around here. I didn’t need any of the suggested items, so I decided to continue to check out. I was prompted to choose my pick-up location. It automatically chose the Walmart offering Walmart Grocery nearest to me, but provides a list of other locations in case you prefer a different Walmart. It’s on this screen that Walmart Grocery informs you that someone over 18 must pick up the order, unless it contains alcohol, when the person picking up the order must be over 21.

Once you’ve picked your location, Walmart Grocery asks you to pick your time slot. It goes by the hour, so you’re free to arrive any time within the time slot you pick, such as 8 a.m.- 9 a.m. I am not a morning person, so I scheduled our pick up for the afternoon. I can do that because I’m the parent and I make the rules.  To finish using Walmart Grocery, you just pay online with your debit or credit card, then sit back and relax until it’s time to pick up your groceries. Currently, Walmart Grocery only accepts credit and debit cards. The service does not accept EBT, cash, Walmart gift cards, or PayPal.

Walmart Grocery is the perfect way to save time without spending extra money. You can use all the extra time you’ve saved to do other fun parenting tasks, like fishing small objects out of your toddler’s mouth and watching the exact same cartoon for three hours on repeat. Then, you can use the money you’ve saved to buy more things for your baby. It’s a win-win…. sort of.
Have you tried Walmart Grocery before?

Unfortunately there is no Walmart anywhere near me and I live in the city and don’t drive, so the few times I have ever shopped at Walmart it was online only and I wasn’t shopping in the grocery category, wish we did have one around here so I could nab those great deals.

  2. Walmart Grocery is really a great service service especially if you are a busy mom. I love how you said strapping a baby into a car seat is like wrangling a drunk octopus which at times can be so true. lol Thanks for sharing your experience and a great service.

  3. I am cracking up laughing because I can relate. Some days my daughter can get out of her seat with no problems. Other days she is a baby again and needs help. Today I had her at the store along with her doll baby. I wish I can ordered online and skipped out on all of this.

  12. I just got word that the walmart near me just started this service and i couldn’t be more excited to try it. Like you said, its not exactly ideal to go to the grocery store with a baby, and in my case my two toddlers. Being able to shop online and have someone bring it out to me is like a miracle! Cant wait to try it!

  13. I wonder if my Walmart has this service. What a great time saver this would be! I have used the amazon fresh service this year and it was awesome!

  14. This is such a great idea, I have to admit I do most of my grocery shopping online as I buy less that way just seem to stick to the bits we need. x

  15. This service sounds like a Godsend! Grocery shopping is something I really loathe, so to have it all waiting for me without having to set foot in the store? Sign me up!

  17. I haven’t tried this yet but I love the concept. We do most of our shopping at Walmart.

  18. I love the convenience of one stop shopping. Without a doubt every time I go to Walmart I pick up some kind of food/drink in the grocery area.

  19. Oh, man! How cool is that? We have a teeny Walmart with no grocery, but if we had one, I’d use this service to keep me on budget! I swear I come home with so much extra stuff when I shop!

  20. This has to be the coolest thing. I always shop at Walmart so this would make my life so much easier!

  21. The really bad thing about living in small towns is that things like this are never available for us! I’d love ot be able to use this service.

  22. I love grocery shopping at Walmart. Not only are they the cheaper option but they also price match. You just can’t beat it!

  23. My sister in Colorado has had Walmart Grocery for such a long time and she absolutely loves it. I made her stop bragging about it because, sadly, we don’t have it yet in my town. My fingers are crossed that we’ll have it soon.

  24. I seriously love this idea! I know I have a Walmart very close to me that does this and I forget about it when I’m actually shopping. I need to use it.

  25. I think Walmart just got a lifelong grocery shopping customer after this. Shopping takes so much time, I’d much rather take a short trip to pick up my groceries than actually spend hours doing physical shopping.

  26. This is the best idea Walmart has ever had. I love the idea of being able to shop online and then just go pick up my groceries. That is SUCH a time saver!

  27. I am so all over this! As a mom of three kids, two dogs, and one husband, time is at a premium for me. That goes double because I also have a blog. This is going to save me a metric ton of time.

  28. Woo hoo! This is so perfect for me. I’m always on the go, and going grocery shopping absolutely irks me. All I can think about is what I could be doing instead. This is going to save me so much time.

  29. I am going to have to check this out! I recently discovered Amazon Pantry and with the amount of time I already spend driving to and from work? I am always looking for ways to save time. I live in a small town and Walmart is the normal place to shop in town. Thanks for sharing this!

  30. This added feature of Walmart finally arrived to our local store and it has been such a time saver. Plus I think I am saving money because I am not walking through the store finding different items.

  31. This is a great reminder for me. We had a Walmart grocery open in our area a few years ago and I hop in their for gluten-free products (great selection). In reading this I remember they contacted me about this program but it was before I shopped there. I need to check it out. Thanks!
