Valentine’s Day has Gone to the Dogs!

If you have read my blog before, you know I am a huge pet lover. We have a house full of rescue pets, cats and dogs.  That’s why I got such a kick out of learning February 13th is Valentine’s Day for Dogs. It even has its own hashtag; #valentinesfordogs.  Our pets always received gifts for Christmas, everyone got a new toy or a package of treats, but I never thought about other holidays, although they are pretty much spoiled all year.  We literally have to spell out “R-I-D-E” around Rio because when he hears the word he comes running toward the car door, ready to jump in. The cats know the word “Treats” and come running as fast as their little paws will carry them, no matter what context I am using the word.

This year I’ve decided to celebrate Valentine’s Day with our pets too. The folks at Big Heart Pets, who manifacture Milk-Bone, Pup-Peroni, Milo’s Kitchen, and Canine Carry Outs, have made it easy with printable Valentine’s for pets with sayings like “I Dig You” and a space to insert a treat.  They have also shared an infographic of some surprising facts about pet parents. Did you know California is the number one state of people who love their dogs? Sadly, Georgia didn’t even rank in the top ten.

This year, as Valentine’s Day has literally gone to the dogs (and cats!), don’t forget to give your pet a special treat to celebrate. After all, our pets give us unconditional love, except for one of our cats who gives us disdain and a low tolerance threshold, although it could be because she is so old. Do you have a pet? How are you planning on including your pet in your Valentine’s festivities?
