Valentine’s Day Chocolate Mousse in Heart Shells

Have you ever wanted to impress your sweetie, family member or someone special that you can make a cute dessert? If you thought it was too hard, you didn’t have the skills or you didn’t have the time, I have the perfect dessert for you. These Valentine’s Day Chocolate Mousse in Heart Shells are no bake, take only a few ingredients and are soooooo tasty.  They remind me a bit more of a ganache than a mousse, but either way they are delicious.  Since they are naturally gluten free, I made a small batch for my daughter. They received two thumbs up and I knew I had a hit.

All you need to make these treats is white chocolate, chocolate chips and cream. I prefer milk chocolate chips, but if you would like a less sweet version, substitute semi-sweet chocolate chips or a dark chocolate candy bar. If you decide to use a dark chocolate bar, break the bar into pieces before beginning the recipe.

Make the white chocolate shells first.  I use the microwave method of melting my white chocolate for 45 seconds, stirring and microwaving 45 more seconds. Remove the melted chocolate from the microwave and stir until smooth. Spread the white chocolate evenly over small silicone hearts. I use this Wilton 6-Cavity Silicone Heart Mold Pan. (affiliate link.)  Place in the freezer until chocolate is firm, approximately 10 minutes.

While the hearts are cooling, make the chocolate mousse. There are two ways to make the chocolate mousse mixture, saucepan or microwave. I prefer the microwave method because it’s faster and I don’t have to stir as often, but either way works. To make the chocolate in the microwave: Place cream and chocolate in a microwave safe bowl and microwave on high for one minute. Stir until smooth. (If mixture is not completely melted, return to the microwave for another 30 seconds.)  For the stovetop method: place chocolate and cream in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir continually until melted. Remove from heat.

Remove the hearts from their silicone molds and fill with the mousse mixture. Return the hearts to the freezer for the mousse mixture to set (usually five to ten minutes.) Enjoy!
