Styling With Stitch Fix

As part of our holiday gift guide on Simply Southern Mom, I had the chance to try Stitch Fix. Stitch Fix is a clothing subscription service that’s like having a personal stylist. Each box costs $20 as a “styling fee” and contains clothing tailored to your style that you can either purchase or send back. If you do purchase anything from your Stitch Fix box, the styling fee is applied towards that purchase. After our last Stitch Fix, I still had about $25 of credit towards my next fix. Since that was enough to cover the styling fee, I thought “why not?” and tried again.

From my last box, I decided to keep the skinny jeans. I have worn them multiple times since purchasing. After getting such a great box last time, I was able to tell my stylist what I liked and disliked about each item. I also started a Stitch Fix Pinterest Board to let my stylist get a visual of things I would love to wear. This meant that my Stitch Fix was even more personalized to my tastes.

This month, my stylist sent five pieces that made two outfits, and could be mixed and matched. The first outfit consisted of the Anita Skinny Pant by Liverpool, The Nomini Button Down Blouse by 41Hawthorn, and the Novah Elbow Patch Textured Cardigan by Honey Punch.

The Anita Skinny Pant can be dressed up or down, making it perfect for someone looking to transition their look from day to night. My mom liked them a lot, but I wasn’t feeling them. The Nomini Button Down Blouse hit my style in several ways: the maroon color looked great with my skin tone, and the black polka dots were a whimsical touch I loved. However, I wasn’t a fan of its sheerness. I don’t own any undershirts because I specifically avoid extremely sheer shirts. At this point, I was wondering if my stylist lived in California, because her idea of winter styles is a little different than mine. Then I tried on the Novah Elbow Patch Textured Cardigan. Now, this was what I was talking about. The fabric was soft, I loved the elbow patches, and it was perfect for the weather. The only reason this got sent back was the color. Do any moms with young kids actually wear white? (If you do, more power to you! This would be Alimentum-yellow in about ten minutes at my house.)

Verdict? Sent back.

Stitch Fix 2

The next outfit was a little simpler. It consisted of the Aryanna Knit Dress from Loveapella and the Pierce Knit Infinity Scarf by Octavia. This outfit is exactly what I’m looking for in a Stitch Fix, honestly. I liked the fit of the knit dress, and I couldn’t quit touching the infinity scarf. Sadly, I have a dress that is almost identical to this one, so even though I loved it, I couldn’t bring myself to keep it. The scarf, which was mustard yellow, was something I wouldn’t have picked out for myself. It was also my favorite item in the Fix. That’s the cool thing about Stitch Fix: it lets you try new looks without worrying. I hate trying clothes on in the store, so I’m afraid to pick things that are outside my comfort zone. With Stitch Fix, you can try new clothes at home, in flattering light, without feeling like the entire store is judging what you took into the dressing room.

Verdict: kept the scarf.

Stitch Fix 2

I fully intend to try more Stitch Fix picks in the future, but I’ve changed the frequency to every three months. I don’t need to refresh my wardrobe every month, because I’m a stay at home mom. If I worked in the public eye, I would keep getting the Stitch Fix monthly.

If you’d like to try Stitch Fix for yourself, check out my Stitch Fix here. It doesn’t cost you anything extra, but I receive a Stitch Fix credit.

Have you ever tried Stitch Fix?
