Sunset Cruising in Gulf Shores, Alabama

One of my favorite activities at the beach is watching the sunset. It’s so relaxing to see the sky turn different colors as the sun slowly sinks over the horizon.  While we were in Gulf Shores we were treated to a gorgeous sunset and other fun surprises with Sail Wild Hearts Sunset Cruise.

We arrived at the dock an half hour before boarding time, which changes year round, depending on the time of sunset.  After a quick check in, we chatted with fellow passengers and our hostess while watching the views from the pier. We were informed dolphins love the nearby area and kept our eyes peeled to see if any would appear.  Unfortunately, we didn’t see any.

Once we boarded the boat we were given a short safety speech and a life jacket for Jenna in case we wanted to carry her above deck. (Children are not required to have life jackets while below deck.)  As the boat sailed out of the harbor we were offered a buffet of light hors d’oeuvre, including fresh fruit, cookies, chips, dip and a cheese ball.  Soft drinks and bottled water were also offered.  (In case you want a little “something stronger” than soft drinks or bottled water,  adults can bring their own beverages and small coolers.)

As we got underway we were allowed to sit (or stand) on the deck and watch the views.  On a side note, life jackets can be a little large for babies, making them unhappy.  We took turns sitting below deck with the baby until we discovered one of us could sit on a ledge and look out while the others sat just outside.

We saw our condo while we were sailing!

The cruise out to sea was fun. We ate our snacks, talked to the crew (our pilot, Captain Zack, had a five month old son who was a week older than Jenna), and watched as some of the adults attempted to hula hoop on a rocking boat. They were not successful.

As we began our journey back from the open ocean, the sun began to set over the horizon. The crew spotted some dolphins frolicking and everyone hurried to snap pictures and watch them play. By the time we arrived back in dock the sun had almost completely set.  Brittany turned to me as we were getting off the boat and said, “This was my favorite thing we’ve done! I want to take another trip with them. Did you see they offer other cruise options too?” I definitely see another cruise with Wild Hearts Sail in our future.

Wild Hearts Sail offers several options of cruises besides the Sunset Sail ranging from 1 1/2 to 5 hours, including a Guided Fish &  Snorkel Adventure, a Guided Snorkel and Sail Tour, a Kayak Adventure Snorkel Sail, a Dolphin and Blue Angels Sail, and a Perdido Key Scuba and Snorkeling Sail.  Reservations are required for all cruises and a 10% military discount is available for active duty service men and women and their families.  Discounts are also available to groups of 12 or more. If you’ve ever dreamed of having your wedding on a ship, wedding packages are available.
