Purina And Rio: Finding His Balance

Rio

Our rescue dog, Rio, is the perfect example of a pampered pooch. After we adopted him from the animal shelter, we took him to the vet for a checkup. They recommended he be put on a balanced diet to keep him healthy, because being small he was in danger of becoming overweight.  We tried a variety of different foods trying to find one he would prefer.  He is very finicky and thinks he should be given his share of table scraps. He would probably prefer we fixed him a little plate with each meal. Since that is not going to happen, Purina One SmartBlend entered the picture, sending us four cans of different flavors to tempt Rio’s taste buds.    Did I mention he is almost as picky as my children?

So, what’s different about Purina One Smart Blend? It combines scientific precision to make the balanced nutrition he needs with a taste that he will enjoy. Each can contains two times the recommended antioxidant levels of zinc, selenium and vitamins A and E.  The nutrients in each can help promote healthy bones and a healthy skin and coat, aid digestion,  and support Rio’s immune system.  Each can boasts that the number one ingredient is fish, poultry or meat.  Of course, as great as all this is, it wouldn’t matter if he refused to eat it. Because he can’t get nutrition if he won’t eat the food, right?  I am happy to report that Rio did enjoy the food and so did the cats when they sneaked by and stole a few bites.  His favorite was Chicken and brown rice, featuring tender cuts of chicken in a gravy sauce.

While Rio (and the sneaky cats) enjoyed his food, I browsed through the book we received, Maddie On Things: A Super Serious Project About Dogs and Physics by Theron Humphrey. Mr. Humphrey managed to take pictures of his dog, Maddie, on all sorts of objects, including tractor tires, No Hunting signs and objects I had never suspected to see a dog, like atop two shopping carts. If you have a dog lover in your family, I recommend this book. It would be a cute Christmas gift.  We also received a handy Dog Journal, perfect for keeping up with when Rio’s shots are due, and a ZogoFlex chew toy that Rio will not be able to chew up.

What do you do to keep your pet healthy? Have you tried Purina Balance products?

  5. we haven’t (yet) but we take our Tobey on walks and play with him each day, and brush him. THe kids want to get leashes for our kittens to do walks but I’m not really sure how that will all play out. I mean, they are cats.
