Every evening, shortly before bedtime, the munchies hit.  The kids rummage through the cabinets, murmuring, “What do we have to eat? Suggest something, Mom!”  Usually I would offer up a few suggestions which were rejected.   I knew we needed to change our eating patterns and find something we could all agree on for a Good night snack.  While I was shopping at Walmart, I passed a display of Kellogg’s cereal that caught my eye.  I had there Frosted Flakes and Froot Loops were available in new boxes featuring characters from the hit movie, Planes, but they weren’t in our store yet. Instead, the boxes had a night time design.  The first thought to enter my mind was, “Good. Night. Snack.”

I wanted to make sure the kids knew the snacks were available and ready to eat so I came up with a sneaky plan to encourage snacking. I purchased small, single serving sized cups and covered them with some stickers I found from the movie planes.  I placed them on a small pedestal stand and added a Planes glow-stick to the middle of the display.  It makes a cute, eye catching centerpiece, while reminding the kids to stop and eat the cereal.

Not content to have the cereal readily available, I came up with a Planes place mat craft project to tempt kids to eat cereal as their good night snack.  This project is super simple to make and is easy enough for young children to help and anyone in Kindergarten and up to make.  To make the placemat, you need 1/2 piece of poster board per mat, in  your favorite color, scissors, glue, a pencil and Planes stickers.   Draw a the body of a plane free hand and cut out with scissors.  If you draw the wings separate, you’ll need to glue them into place.  Add the Planes stickers where ever  desired on the plane body. Place the cereal bowl in the middle of the plane and you’re ready for take off!

While I couldn’t find the specially marked Planes: Fire and Rescue boxes, be on the lookout for them at your Walmart. Each box has a code that allows you to receive five great offers, ranging from $7.50 off a Planes: Fire and Rescue movie ticket to a dollar off two boxes Planes fruit flavored snacks.
