Shamrock Peppermint Salt Foot Scrub

I start dreaming of spring in mid-February. Actually, who am I kidding? I begin thinking of spring on the first day of Fall. By mid-February, my need for warm weather has reached new heights. I ignore the dismal, rainy weather and plan vacations on warm, sandy beaches or imagine myself seated by the pool with a cool drink and a good book. Then, I realized I couldn’t show my winter feet in public.  I don’t want to be known as the scaly-heeled monster. I knew the answer to my problems; make this homemade Peppermint Salt Foot Scrub.

Peppermint Salt Foot Scrub Recipe

This homemade scrub not only smells amazing, but it also uses 3 different types of salt for maximum exfoliation. I prepared the scrub in two colors; green and white, then layered it to give it a festive St. Patrick’s Day look. Doesn’t it remind you of a lucky shamrock?

If you want a nontraditional, easy-to-make, present for someone on St. Patrick’s Day, this scrub comes together in around 5 minutes and has 6 ingredients. Of course, after you whip up a batch, the feel and smell of this scrub may inspire you to keep it for yourself. It’s the perfect pick-me-up for the wintertime blues. It’s also naturally gluten-free so it can be used by anyone who has skin sensitivities to gluten.

Here’s What You Need To Make The Salt Scrub

  • salt- I used 3 types for maximum exfoliation, kosher, Epsom, and sea salt.
  • oil of your choice – see the tips below– I’ve used almond, tea tree, and olive when preparing the scrub.
  • peppermint essential oil
  • green food coloring or green paste coloring
  • airtight container to hold the scrub

Tips for Preparing the Scrub

  • You don’t have to use 3 types of salt. If you prefer, use one type of salt.
  • If you are using sea salt, the larger-sized coarse grain is best.
  • I use green paste coloring instead of food coloring to give the scrub a deeper color.
  • You can use any healthy oil you prefer; almond, coconut, or tea tree oil.
  • If you don’t want to make a layered salt scrub, you can mix the salts together instead of dividing them into two bowls.
  • You can omit the food coloring if you prefer.
  •  I found the cute glass jars I used at Hobby Lobby for 99 cents each. , but you can also check Michael’s, the Dollar Store, or thrift shops for cute containers.

How to Make the Salt Scrub:

  1. To make a layered salt scrub, divide the salt into two medium bowls. I suggest mixing the sea salt and kosher salt together in one bowl. Place the Epsom salt into another bowl.
  2. Add four to five drops of peppermint essential oil to each bowl.  You can adjust the number of drops used to create a stronger or lighter scent if you like.
  3. Add three drops of green food coloring (or paste) to the Epsom salt to create a contrasting layer. You can adjust the number of drops of green food coloring to make the mixture lighter or darker.
  4. Stir in just enough oil into each bowl to blend the mixture. Start with a small amount, like a tablespoon of oil, and add more as needed. The mixture should be wet but not have an excess amount of oil.
  5. Layer the mixture into an 8-ounce glass jar. Place the white salts on the bottom and cover them with the green salts. Cover the salts. Be sure they are airtight!

How Long Can You Store the Salt Scrub?

This scrub can be stored for at least a month if you keep it in an airtight container.  I also store mine in the fridge but you don’t have to do this. If you live in a warm area, cold scrub on a hot day feels wonderful.
I can’t say whether it can be stored longer than that because the batches I’ve made never lasted that long!
