Mummy Halloween Pumpkin Centerpiece

Each year, since the kids were young,  we spend Halloween evening with friends. We enjoy a quick dinner and pass out candy to the mass of children who sweep through the neighborhood.  The kids and I always try to make a spooky dessert and a cute centerpiece for the table.  I spend way too much time scouring Pinterest for ideas. Then, when I find an idea, I always wind up completely changing it around depending on how much time I have and what low cost materials I can find to make it. I started with this noncandy Halloween centerpiece made from a real pumpkin and transformed it into a mummy centerpiece adorned with Candy Corn shaped lollipops. See? I told you it wouldn’t be remotely the same!

I started with a plastic pumpkin I found at the dollar store.  I brought it home and spray painted it white. The texture turned out bumpy but I decided that added “mummy character.”  I had to spray the pumpkin twice to get it completely covered with white paint. Allow the pumpkin to dry while you search through the house for the glue someone has taken out of the junk drawer and not replaced.

Once the paint has dried, glue two wiggly eyes onto the front of the pumpkin. Using black craft paint, add a mouth below the eyes. I used my finger and it made a nice oval mouth that looks like my mummy is saying whatever mummies say, maybe boo or woooo.

I picked up the cute candy corn lollipops at the dollar store. They were six for $1 and I used two packs to give it a look of fullness. All in all, this cute mummy centerpiece cost around $3.50 for the supplies, including the paint and the wiggly eyes.

I think our mummy should be the hit of the Halloween table! What traditions do you have for Halloween?
