Five Ingenious Uses for Bleach

This is a sponsored post with Clorox, but all opinions are my own.
During the month of August, Clorox asked me to take the #BleachinYourBest challenge,  a chance to test their new Clorox® Control Bleach Crystals™,Clorox® Bleach in a solid, crystalized form that is water activated,  and  Bleach Packs™ ,pre-measured, water-activated single use pouches that dissolve completely in water with no measuring or pouring. Both feature the same power of Clorox without the spills! Once I discovered I could bleach without ruining my clothing, as I am bad about splashing it everywhere, I discovered so many uses for bleach around the house! Here are five of the best.
bleach in your best

1. Getting mold and mildew off of the shower curtain. Let’s face it, no one wants to have guests over and have them see the mold and mildew that can accumulate on the bottom of a shower curtain. I place the shower curtain into the washing machine, along with a capful of Clorox Control Bleach Crystals and a capful of laundry detergent, then wash in warm water.  I let my shower curtain air dry.

2. Cleaning cement patios, benches and picnic tables. I am honestly not sure what sort of stains the kids and pets have gotten onto the patio, but they needed to go! I used one Clorox bleach tablet in three gallons water and scrubbed the patio with a wire brush to remove the pesky stains.  Be sure to rinse thoroughly after scrubbing!

3. Cleaning garbage cans.  Our outdoor garbage can developed a pungent odor as the summer went on. To clean it, I used one Clorox bleach tablet in three gallons of water. I allowed the bleach mixture to set inside the can for an hour and then rinsed it with a water hose.  No more bad odors when I dump a bag of trash!

4. Killing weeds on my sidewalk and porch steps.  I didn’t want to use pesticide around my front door, but I was getting tired of pulling weeds that were growing up on the crack in my porch steps and on my sidewalk. I mixed a capful of Clorox bleach crystals into a spray bottle of water and sprayed it on the weeds. Now it is a weed free zone! Important note: Don’t accidentally spray it onto grass or flowers. It will kill them too!

5.  Eliminate mosquitoes. In the South we are swamped with mosquitoes each spring and summer! It seems like there is standing water all over our yards. I mixed one capful of bleach crystals and a gallon of water together and added one capful to the standing water around our home. This kills the mosquito larva, making me a happy camper!

Of course, I still use Clorox in my washing, but I was happy to discover it’s a cost effective way to clean around the house! Do you have any alternative uses for bleach?
