I wouldn’t say our cats are spoiled; just extremely pampered. They have their own toys, their own pet beds, anything to give them the star treatment. When my son goes away to college, the cats have their own room, filled with cat supplies, much to my son’s dismay. “Why is all this cat stuff in my room?” he asks when he comes home on breaks. Sorry, son. You move out, cats move in. You might say they are MVFs (most valuable felines.)
Diy Cat Water Bowl

Our oldest cat is 14 this year! I’ve noticed she has some hip problems. She’s walking slower and having more trouble with reaching down toward her food and water bowls. I decided to help her out by elevating her food and water bowls, but how? I decided to make cute DIY decorative cat water bowls. These are perfect for use inside or outside.

How to Make  DIY Decorative Cat Water Bowls

Step 1: These are  easy to make, but, oh, so cute!  I began by searching through my unused flower pots for two terracotta pots. I used a  5.25″ x 4.5″ pot  for the top and a 4.25″ x 3.75″ for the base. (Note: You can change the sizes of the pots you use to fit your pet’s water or food bowl.)

Step 2: I painted both pots, using blue paint for the bottom of the pots and silver paint for the top rim.  You can use whatever type of paint and paint color you want as long as it’s waterproof.  Once the paint was dry, I attempted to put a few paw prints of my pet onto the pots.  This is more difficult than it seems so you can skip this step if you have an uncooperative pet! I finally went with a decorative overlay. Be sure to apply shellac over it and allow it to dry before using.  (Tip: This might take two coats to paint the pot.)

Step 3: Feel free to personalize the pot. Write your cat’s name on the rim or add designs. Once the pots dried I glued them together.  I used superglue to make sure the pots stayed together.

Step 4: As soon as the glue is dried and the pots can be moved, insert the water or food bowl into the top.  Tip: If you are using the bowl outside, draw a circle of chalk around the bowl. It will usually keep bugs from trying to crawl into the bowl.
stop stank face

The one problem with having cats is “Stankface.” What is Stankface? It’s the horrible smell you can sometimes have from the litter box. No one wants that!  We’ve been using the new Tidy Cats® line, including Tidy Cats Lightweight Litter, which features guaranteed TidyLock™ Protection that locks away the odors.  You won’t believe how lightweight this litter is.  My son asked, when picking up the package, “How come this litter is so light?” Seriously, this is 1/2 the weight of normal litter!
