Easy DIY Soothing Sinus Salt Scrub Recipe

I have suffered from seasonal allergies all my life. I’m allergic to trees, grasses, even cockroaches. Although I will be the first to admit, I try to stay away from cockroaches if at all possible. Did I mention I also live in one of the top twenty cities in the nation for allergies? Throw that in the mix and I could be nicknamed either “Stuffy” or “Sniffy” all year round. I am plagued with red watery eyes, a puffy face, and a stuffy nose. Believe me when I say it’s not an attractive look.

DIY Soothing Sinus Salt Scrub Recipe

Years ago, while searching for relief from my allergies, I found a DIY Salt Scrub recipe. I had a lightbulb moment when I realized I could adapt it to make an easy DIY Soothing Sinus Salt Scrub recipe. Not only could I pamper myself, woo-hoo, but I could also relieve some of the sinus pressure I was feeling.

As an added bonus, my family can’t say, “Why are you are taking another long, steamy bath?” if I say I’m doing it for my sinuses. Sure, they could, but wouldn’t they sound selfish? Hehe.

How to Make DIY Soothing Sinus Salt Scrub

I found most of my supplies to make salt scrub at the dollar store, bringing the total cost to around $5 for 32 ounces of salt scrub. (That’s counting the extra essential oil I added which I purchased from a reputable company online.)

Mix it up with more Scents!

The recipe can be changed to make any type of bath salts you’d like.  Try these for a little something different:

  • lavender essential oil is said to be used for relaxation
  • peppermint essential oil is said to be used to help relieve tension.
  • lemon, lime, or other citrus oil is said to be used for alertness

What You Need to Make the Sinus Scrub

  • Epsom Salt
  • Vitamin E oil (you can use another type of oil if you like. Good substitutes are olive oil or almond oil.)
  • Eucalyptus Oil (I use 5 to 10 drops, but you can add more if you’d prefer stronger smelling bath salt or less essential oil for less scent.)
  • Food Coloring (optional, use a few drops to make different colored salts)
  • A glass jar (or another airtight container) for storage

  • 15 drops Eucalyptus Essential Oil

  • 1 (32) ounce airtight container or several smaller ones

Directions

  • Pour the Epsom Salt into a large bowl. Stir in the Vitamin E (or other) oil until blended.

  • 1 medium-sized airtight container

Important Notes About Essential Oils

  • Essential oils are not regulated by the FDA so it is important to research the company and the ingredients used in the oil before purchasing.
  • Essential oils can cause allergic reactions in some people.
  • Some undiluted essential oils can cause rashes or phototoxicity when applied directly to the skin.

Printable Label:

Store the salts in an airtight container in a cool, dark place until ready to use.
