Copycat Starbucks Mocha Frappuccino Recipe

“Coffee is the only way I can start my morning.” That’s what people tell me all the time. While I need the caffeine boost in the morning (I’m a fan of diet Mountain Dew), I’m not a coffee drinker. Yes, it amazes the other people in my household who love coffee and shocks my friends, but the only way I can drink coffee is in one of those fancy, frou-frou coffee drinks. But, I have a problem. The price of fancy, frou-frou coffee drinks adds up in a hurry. That’s why I’ve learned to make my own at home. This Copycat Starbucks Mocha Frappuccino recipe satisfies both my wallet and my coffee craving.

Starbucks Mocha Frappuccino Copycat Recipe

This naturally gluten-free recipe is simple to make and contains only five common pantry and fridge ingredients. If you like, you can add whipped cream and chocolate syrup for topping, but it’s not a requirement.

Preparation Tips:

*You’ll need double-strength coffee (see tip) to make this recipe.
*Why bother with double-strength coffee? It will add a stronger coffee flavor that’s important in frou-frou coffee drinks where the other ingredients can easily overpower the coffee taste.
*If you don’t like the coffee taste, just use a regular strength of coffee.
*Want to make this with less calories? Use low-fat milk, Splenda (or your favorite low-calorie sweetener), and lite chocolate syrup and whipped cream.
*If you are using Splenda to replace the sugar, use 2-3 packets depending on how sweet you want the coffee to taste.

How to Prepare Double Strength Coffee

There are two ways to do this.
*The easiest way-if using a coffee maker-is to double the amount of coffee grounds while using the same amount of water.  If you normally use 1 scoop coffee+ 1 cup water, just use 2 scoops coffee + 1 cup water.
The second way-if using a coffee maker-is to brew the coffee as you normally would. Then, pour the coffee over the grounds and rebrew the coffee.  BUT-to prevent a bitter flavor you need to wait until the coffee grounds have cooled before rebrewing the coffee. You will always need to wash the basket after use to prevent a bitter flavor in future batches of coffee.

What You’ll Need:

Double-Brewed Coffee
Granulated Sugar
Ice Cubes
Milk- use your choice of skim, 1%, 2%, or full-fat. You can also use soy or almond milk.
Chocolate Syrup or Chocolate Ice Cream Topping
Whipped Cream, optional
