Butterfinger Heart Cookies Recipe

butterfinger cookies, Valentines Day
We received Nestle Candy for review purposes. All opinions are our own.

On Valentine’s Day we have to enjoy a special sweet treat.  It’s just tradition and it gives me an excuse to sneak in a few sweets.  I try a different recipe each year, browsing pinterest until I find a recipe that looks good, while being simple enough for kids to prepare. These Butterfinger Cookies from Sally’s Baking Addiction fit the bill nicely. They only called for six ingredients, all of which I happened to have in my kitchen.  I wanted the cookies to look more festive so I jazzed them up with a white chocolate glaze and pink sugar sprinkles.  I found heart shaped cookie cutters for around 99 cents at the local craft store to be able to give everyone a piece of my heart. Yes, yes, I am punny. I couldn’t resist!  Be sure to freeze the dough before you cut it with the cookie cutters.

A chewy, heart shaped cookie perfect for a snack with your sweetie.
Ingredients
  • 1 and 3/4 (14 ounces) cup all purpose flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup (6 ounces)sugar
  • 1 stick softened butter (1/2 cup or 4 ounces)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 8 fun sized Butterfinger bars, chopped
  • 1 cup (8 ounces) white chocolate chips
  • pink sugar
Instructions
  1. Mix flour, baking soda and salt together in a large bowl. Add sugar, then butter and eggs. Mix until completely blended. Stir in Butterfinger bars. Place dough in the freezer for one to two hours. Remove dough from freezer and place on a baking sheet or waxed paper. Roll dough out until it is 1/4 inch thick. Use a heart shaped cookie cutter to make hearts in the dough. Place the dough on a cookie sheet and bake for five to seven minutes in a preheated 350 degree oven or until light brown. Once cookies have cooled, melt chocolate chips in a double boiler or in a microwave safe dish. Spread white chocolate on one half of the cookie. Sprinkle the white chocolate with pink sugar. Allow chocolate to harden (fifteen minutes) before eating.

We received a supply of Valentine’s Candy from Nestle to help with our baking and the kids (plus friends) spent time telling me which candy they “wanted to eat on its own, without being mixed into something. ”  Thank goodness for several varieties!
