Bleu Barbque Bacon Burger

All of the men in my family are huge burger fans.  They could probably eat a hamburger with every meal.  Naturally I don’t say no to cooking hamburgers because they offer to grill them for me.  Hey, if someone else wants to do the cooking one evening, I am all over it.  When I learned about The Good Cook stuffed burger challenge, I decided to try my hand to see what I could come up with.  I prepared a list, went to the local store since I didn’t want to get ready and drive 30 minutes into town, and discovered they didn’t have several of the ingredients I needed.  My son and I discussed this in the store and came up with another burger on the fly.  I couldn’t believe how well it turned out and it only has six ingredients. I don’t eat a ton of burgers, but this one was so good and filling too.

Serves: 8
A stuffed burger loaded with goodies. Add your favorite topping and you will have a burger that’s big on taste.
Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup (4 ounces) bleu cheese, crumbled
  • 1/2 cup (4 ounces) french fried onions, crumbled
  • 1/4 cup (2 ounces) bar-b-que sauce (use a tangy variety)
  • 2 Tablespoons worcestershire sauce
  • 2 pounds ground hamburger meat
  • (optional, but adds a lot of flavor: 6 slices crumbled, cooked bacon)
Instructions
  1. Mix the cheese, onions, bar-b-que, worcestershire sauce and bacon together in a large bowl. Using the Burger stuffer, make and stuff the patties. Cook patties on the grill until done to the degree you like. This made 8 burgers, which serves 8 people with small appetites or 4 people with hearty appetites.

Bleu Barbque Bacon Burger

We had never made stuffed burgers before so I was glad we received a Burger Stuffer that made the process much easier. All we had to do was place the hamburger meat on the bottom, add the filling, cover with more meat and press. Voila! Perfectly filled burgers that came out uniform and thick. My son tried his hand at stuffing the burgers and thought his burgers came out “looking good.”  One thing I noticed about stuffed burgers is that they have a tendency to come apart when cooking.  Although we cooked ours on the grill, we placed the burgers in a cast iron grill before setting them on the grill.  We did have a couple of burgers that fell completely apart and the cast iron grill kept them from falling down the grill vents. I think it also helped them cook evenly since they were very thick. It did take a couple of minutes longer using the grilling pan, but it was worth the wait.
