A Happy, Healthy New Year with Walgreens

“Do you know how much weight I have gained?” I complained to my husband, “We are going to have a major lifestyle change in 2013.”  A glance at the scale confirmed my husband’s participation. We sat down with the kids and asked them what they would like to do this year to get fit, lose weight and become more active.  Our first change was to begin hiking again. We plan on taking on the toughest trail in the state by midsummer. Since I knew there would be plenty of times we couldn’t hike during our wet, cold winter I dragged out the exercise bike and challenged everyone to work up to riding twenty miles three times a week. The kids accepted the challenge and I’ve heard the spinning of tires instead of the television.  We are well on our way to becoming #happyhealthy!

Another change I plan to make this year is to simplify my life. I am constantly on the go and wanted a way to step off the fast track. One way I plan to make life easier is by using the Walgreens Mobile App. Using the app I can have my prescription refilled at the Walgreens Pharmacy just by scanning the bottle. Then I can stop by while I am out and pick it up. No wasted time waiting for refills. I can browse through the weekly ad while I am waiting in line for the kids, combining two chores at once.

This app is filled with all sorts of Walgreens innovations. I can use it to send photos directly from my phone or Facebook to the store and have them printed in one hour or I can use the store map locator to find a product instead of having to wander around the aisles. One of my favorite features is the shop app. I can order products, including cold medicine for my daughter who’s a freshman in college 550 miles away, and have them delivered to her dorm in two to five business days. It’s a feature any mom will love—being able to take care of my sick child even when she is far away.

While I was running errands to purchase healthier food, I stopped by Walgreens for some supplies to help us on our way to a happier, healthier new year. Naturally my first instinct was to purchase some medicine to get rid of the nasty sinus infections everyone in our family had managed to catch during the holiday break.  I was super happy to find Walgreens decongestant and cough syrup on sale. Plus I received loyalty points on my Balance Rewards card for buying two bottles. Saving money is another goal of mine this year and I can save up my reward points to earn cash off future purchases.
I couldn’t resist buying sanitizing wipes when I found them on sale and with the added incentive of earning me Balance Rewards points. I plan to wipe down every surface in the house and contain this illness! By the time my shopping trip was over I had earned 6000 loyalty points bringing my total to 10000 points. That means I could save 10 dollars off my next order.
I’m feeling optimistic about our new healthy lifestyle. We’ve spent the past few days reworking our eating plan and our daily bike riding has gotten off to a good start. We’ve brainstormed all sorts of ideas to keep our momentum going. Whether it’s long walks on the beach, hiking mountain trails or bike riding around town, I look forward to our active lifestyle in 2013.

  1. I love the Walgreens app for reordering prescriptions! While on a business trip last year my husband was freaking out that he left his diabetes meds at home, and I was able to locate a Walgreens on the app, order refills to be sent to that store, and get him set up within 24 hours. Score! 🙂
