5 Must Have Items For Your Nursery

One of the most fun parts of pregnancy, in my opinion, is decorating the nursery. However, it’s easy to get caught up in all the ads and cute products and wind up with way too much going on in the nursery. Sure, that rocking horse was cute in the store, but how long will it be before they can use it?  If you’ve been overthinking the nursery, on the other hand, it’s also easy to want to go the complete opposite direction. A minimalist nursery is a great concept, but you don’t want to wind up missing something important! Everyone’s must-have list is going to look a little different, but here are five things you (probably) need in your nursery.

5 Must Have Items For Your Nursery

1. A Crib
We’ve used a co-sleeper, a pack and play, and a crib throughout the past seven months. I’m an extremely light sleeper, so the co-sleeper didn’t work out. The pack and play was uncomfortable. The crib? It’s the only way she’ll sleep by herself! To make your crib last longer, pick one that converts into a toddler bed! Some cribs even convert into a day bed or art table after they’re done being toddler beds.

2. Crib Mattress

You can’t sleep on an uncomfortable mattress, so why would your baby? Finding a comfortable, durable crib mattress is important for your baby’s comfort and for your sleep! We recommend the crib mattress from Brentwood Home. This crib mattress has two sides: a firm side for your infant and a softer side for your toddler! It fits both cribs and toddler beds, so no worries about buying a new mattress just a year or two down the road. We received the Poppy Crib Mattress, which is made of hypoallergenic, anti-microbial materials. It’s easy to wipe clean, the wipeable cover is PVC free, and it’s made in Los Angeles!

3. A Rocker.
Whether you plan on rocking your baby to sleep or not, a good rocking chair or glider is important to have in your nursery. When our child had reflux, she had a hard time sleeping unless she was being held upright. We spent many hours trapped in that rocking chair. Now that her reflux is clearing up, it’s a great place to cozy up for story time.

4. Changing Pad
Sure, you can use your crib as a place to change your baby. However, once those little feet start moving into diaper territory and you find yourself with a mess all over those cute crib sheets, you might wish you had a designated changing area. We have a chest of drawers that is also a changing table. In the drawers is everything we could ever need during diaper time, and it’s topped with a changing pad from Brentwood Home. The Sweetpea Changing Pad is specially made to conform to your baby’s body, which should keep them comfy and minimize wiggling. The quilted cover is a tactile experience for babies, along with being cozy. Make a mess? The cover is easy to remove and machine wash, as we have already found out.

5. Toy Storage
I don’t know how our seven month old has already wound up with so many toys and books. Until we got storage containers, there was no way to wrangle them, which left the room feeling cluttered. Good storage and organizational containers also work wonders for keeping other baby necessities in check, like diapers, wipes, and medications! We like cloth storage cubes with handles for books and toys, and plastic containers with lids for everything else.
