We began our year with a resolve to eat healthier but soon fell off the bandwagon as we spent some time traveling in January. It was just so tempting to eat junk when we were on the go! Unfortunately, we came home, spent some time at the doctor and discovered my husband was once again on the verge of diabetes and my daughter had Hashimoto’s disease. Drastic changes were called for! Bryan is a die-hard meats and potatoes kind of guy so converting him to veggies was not going to be easy. I knew I would have an easier time with my daughter but it still had to taste good or she wouldn’t eat it. When we were offered an opportunity to try the new Dr. Praeger’s Sensible Foods products, I knew I had to seize the day- or veggie, if you will. After all, not eating sensibly was harming our health.
Dr. Praeger’s Sensible Foods are made without artificial fats and colors, are low in cholesterol and saturated fats, are made from high quality ingredients and are kosher and gluten free. That’s a big plus for us as my daughter is now supposed to try for a gluten free diet. As she is a big bread fan, this is not an easy step! I hoped, since is loves veggies, the offerings from Dr. Praeger would make up for what she was missing. Instead it was my son, whose taste does not run to veggies, who tried the Sweet Potato Pancakes first. The package has six pancakes in the box and my son ate three of them with his dinner, turning down the meat offering! Needless to say, I’ll be adding these to my shopping list!
Next on our list was the Buffalo “Chicken” Nuggets. I was surprised to find the texture was the same as a traditional chicken nugget. I served the nuggets with blue cheese dressing and we gobbled them up. My son said they were slightly too spicy for his taste, but I thought they were just right. The California Veggie Burgers have an appearance that was a wee bit off to my kids. “It looks like it has vegetables in it!” my son complained. This was my fault since I served them without a bun. I should have served them as a traditional hamburger and would have had no complaints.
Dr. Praeger’s products can be used in recipes too! I plan to use our broccoli pancakes to make Cream of Broccoli soup. Served with salad this would make a quick and tasty lunch of light dinner. Visit their website to check out a complete list of their goodies to tempt your finicky eaters.
