Tossing, turning, shifting restlessly under the covers, what could be worse than sleepless nights? How about adjusting to a new environment in a college dorm, stressing about classes, and being far away from home? My daughter has been a notoriously light sleeper and has had difficulty falling asleep since shortly after birth. I’ve been worried about her living in a dorm with her sleep patterns. Would she oversleep through an important class? Would she be able to sleep? Could we find a way to improve her sleep?
In hopes of improving her sleep schedules I will be sending the Lark to college with her this fall. Designed by sleep scientists, The Lark works with iPhones, iPads, or iPod touch to gently nudge her awake with vibration, providing a relaxing, stress free awakening. A flexible, comfy “pajama” wristband is attached to the arm at night to provide the vibrations. Even if the phone goes dead during the night, the wristband will still work. She wouldn’t have to worry about oversleeping because the app includes a composer created audio back up that goes off if the wristband falls off of her arm, unless she hits the snooze button! This is a huge improvement over the blaring, buzzing alarm I had in college that woke up everyone in the immediate vicinity because the Lark is designed to only wake up the person wearing it, allowing everyone else to stay asleep.
The included app tracks individual sleep patterns with a seven day sleep assessment using Actigraphy, a system used to detect sleep disorders based on movement. Once the sleep assessment has finished, the Lark provides a seven day customized sleep report with steps to improve sleep through behavior change strategies, sleep education, sleep assessments and easy-to-use coaching tools. Included in the package is the complete Lark system, a soft wristband, a power charging station and cord which works with the iPhone and the wristband, the sleep sensor, the Lark Up app and a power cord.
I’m hoping for restful nights and relaxing days using Lark technology! Interested in downloading the app? Find it here.
